Deja Vu: Obama Pushes Stimulus Bill, Blames Republicans But Democrats Not Supporting Him

Deja Vu: Photo and article 2 yrs. 8 mos. ago on
Newser: "Obama Stimulus . . . Bad Economics".
Obama is again pushing the same bad economics,
but now, some Democrats are concerned!
Today in Washington, D.C. - October 3, 2011:
Both the Senate and the House will be back in session today at 2PM.

The Senate Senate will take up the motion to proceed to S. 1619, legislation dealing with China’s currency practices. They will then from 4:30 to 5:30 consider and then vote on the nomination of Henry Floyd to the 4th Circuit and other5 district court nominees. This is mentioned because it is interesting that Republicans as a whole have cooperated with supporting the majority of appointments by the Obama administration.  However, during the Presidency of George Bush, the Democrats often delayed consideration of voted for his judicial nominees.  After the votes on the judges they will move to cloture on S.1619.

Today the US House Rules Full Committee will address the following bill:
H.R. 2250 — EPA Regulatory Relief Act of 2011
H.R. 2608 - Continuing Appropriations Act, 2012
H.R. 2681 - Cement Sector Regulatory Relief Act of 2011

The short term Continue Resolution (CR) voted on and approved by the House only funds the Government through Oct 4 (tomorrow). The did this by voice vote of only a few members while the House was in recess to avoid calling all Representatives back into session. However, the House must vote on the remainder of the CR which was modified by the Senate Democrats to fund the government through November 18. The time for the scheduled vote is unknown but surely will be before midnight tomorrow.

Confused! The Democrats modified the previously House approved (219 to 203,) Continuing Resolution which would have kept the Government funded through November 18. The democrats objected funding increased FEMA funds with reductions to the scandal ridden green jobs loan guarantee programs which was passed previously Democrat controlled House and Senate.

Then "out of the blue," The FEMA director suddenly announces that FEMA no longer needs increased funding because they will be able to operate under the present funding of the new fiscal year which was to begin in only a few days. While teh cleanup continues on past major disasters, is the FEMA director not planning anymore major natural disaster in 2011. Doubtful but Democrat politics continue and they sure want to keep wasting taxpayers money on scandal ridden loans for alleged green jobs.

One more note. The U.S. House has previously done their responsibility and previously submitted a budget for the now current fiscal year which began on Oct 1st. However, the U.S. Senate under the leadership of Democrat Sen. Harry Reid refused to do so!

The AP wrote on Saturday, “The White House and congressional Republicans just can't agree on the best prescription for the economy, with President Barack Obama demanding passage of his $447 billion jobs bill and the GOP pushing to cut government red tape. . . . ‘It is time for Congress to get its act together and pass this jobs bill so I can sign it into law,’ he said in his Saturday address. The president has mounted a steady public campaign on behalf of his bill, trying to cast Congress and Republicans in particular as obstacles. With a populist flair, Obama has barnstormed across the country to prod Congress, so far to no avail. The stops have come in contested election states such as Ohio, North Carolina, Colorado and Virginia, and the president has taken his message directly to the districts of leading Republicans. On Tuesday, he will go to the Texas district represented by GOP Rep. Jeb Hensarling, co-chairman of a special deficit reduction committee in Congress.”

However, the AP points out, “Three weeks after Obama submitted his legislation, the Democratic-controlled Senate has yet to consider it.”

And the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Jamie Dupree reports, “President Obama is certain to again demand action this week in Congress on his jobs creation package, but for now, there is no rush by Democrats in the Senate to even bring the measure up for floor debate.”

Durpree explains, “The President will have the chance to make [his] point in a full day of campaign travel on Tuesday, as he goes to Texas and Missouri, which the White House told reporters has a clear goal. . . . But while the White House will again be calling for action by lawmakers, the first order of business in the Senate this week - that would the Senate which is controlled by the President's own party - will be a measure on China's currency.”

Further, Dupree notes, “At this point, Democrats probably don't have 50 votes for the underlying Obama jobs bill, as Democrats are split for a variety of reasons. Some Senate Democrats don't like the way the plan is paid for with higher taxes; others don't like higher tax levies on the oil and gas industry as well as other details. . . . So, while you may hear President Obama say, ‘Pass this bill’ again this week, that jobs bill is not going anywhere fast in the Congress as the month of October begins.”

As Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said not long after President Obama introduced his new stimulus bill, “I know the President and his advisors are keen on this idea of making Republicans look bad, but from what I can tell, he’s got a bigger problem at the moment lining up supporters in his own party. And that brings me to the real issue. The truth is, the President has a problem that no amount of political strategizing can solve: his economic policies simply haven’t worked. Yet he and his advisors seem to be the only folks in Washington who aren’t ready to admit it.”
