Disarming Our Citizens
The below letter to the editor is by Robert "Bob" McDowell, Jr. He is a Professional Engineer and Geologist with over 50 years experience in creating drilling prospects, supervising drilling, well completion, production operation, and pipeline design for oil and gas including repair of problem wells. McDowell is a conservative and active in the Oklahoma Republican Assembly.
by Bob McDowell We need to wake up, or we the citizens of the USA will become no more than slaves to an oppressive, dictatorial 'political class' running everything in our lives from Washington, D.C., all to the detriment of our social and financial structure. A good example of this agenda, is the Obama's Administration's continual push for the complete disarming of the citizens, in violation of the second amendment of the Constitution. It has not been taught in the schools, but it was just this sort of action on the part of the King of England that precipitated the start of the War for Independence, in 1776.
You can be assured that if this movement is successful we will deteriorate into an era of the most violent crime sprees in history by criminals both in and out of government. It must be remembered that, contrary to the 'motto' painted on the sides of police cruisers in some cities of "to serve and protect", the job of the police is to solve crimes after they have been committed then arrest and prosecute the culprits. Police forces do not have the numbers to be able to 'protect' the people even if that were the mandate. It is therefor up to us to protect ourselves, our families, and our fellow citizens from the criminal element.
Yet, there is a continuing aggression on the part of the Communist/Socialist element to achieve the complete disarmament of the population and thus render us helpless to defend ourselves against those who choose to attack us for whatever reason. As a former member of the PRESBO circle of advisors said "we must never let a crisis go to waste". Therefore, whenever there is a multiple murder or shooting in the nation, the cry goes out to restrict or to confiscate the guns from law abiding citizens. Of course, those who do not respect the law will continue to keep their guns and to do vioance on others because there will be no one to stop them. This has been shown to be true, since the places these violent perpetrators go to do their murderous intent most often are places they believe to be "gun free", e.g., schools, churches, and government offices.
Recently there appeared a couple of stories about communities mandating the ownership of guns within their city limits. A story appeared on March 9 via Augusta, Maine which stated that the Board of Selectmen in the town of Byron, Maine, population 140, was voting to pass such an ordinance, and it was expected to pass. Then on April 2, a story with the by-line of Kate Brumback of the AP stated that the town of Nelson, GA had passed an ordinance requiring gun ownership unless the occupant was legally prohibited from such or it was against their religion.
The Maine story also stated that "Communities from Idaho to Georgia have been inspired to 'require' or recommend their residents arm themselves". These actions have accelerated since the Newtown, Conn. school shootings. Facts reported indicate to me that had the teachers been permitted to be armed, after appropriate training, the killings would not have happened or would have been greatly reduced. One story on that incident stated that the principal, although unarmed, had attempted to stop the murderer, and was promptly killed.
These stories reminded me of stores that appeared a number of years ago. Unfortunately, the rigors of time and life have erased the names of the towns, but there was one in Florida and another, a suburb of Chicago, that had passed such ordinances. The result was an complete reduction of violent crime to almost zero in both cities. After all, criminals usually tend to be cowards and will go places where they believe there will be no opposition. Yet there is still an outcry to "ban the guns" in media and politics. Those elected officials advocating banning guns or making gun registration mandatory, thus providing government with lists of owners, must be retired (fired) by the voters, or the voters must accept that the blood of future victims will be on their hands.
