Burying The Evidence | IG: Gov’t 'To Pay 20+ Contractors More Than Original Estimates For Work On Healthcare.gov & Obamacare Rollout

While the Obama Administration and democrats may try to bury the evidence, it just keep coming back to bite them. Frustrating as hell to the Obama machine. Here is the latest on the Obamacare rollout.
The Hill reports today, “The federal government is due to pay at least 20 contractors more than their original estimates for work on HealthCare.gov and the rollout of ObamaCare, according to an official review released Tuesday.
“The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) inspector general (IG) found that federal contracts on the rollout exceeded $1.7 billion in value. Seven companies are due to receive more than double their initial estimates, the IG report stated. The government was obligated to pay nearly $800 million for 60 contracts related to the federal marketplace as of February 2014. By that time, it had spent nearly $500 million. The IG review is perhaps the first to sketch the financial consequences of the technical problems that nearly killed HealthCare.gov and several other exchanges last fall. . . . In one case, while a 2011 contract was estimated to be worth $93 million at its awarding, CGI Federal could ultimately receive more than $200 million for that agreement. . . . The report promises to be the first in a series of post-mortems on the cost of ObamaCare's rollout.”
Democrats frequently claimed that their unpopular health care law would save the government money, “bend the cost curve down,” or similarly reduce costs. Yet this inspector general report shows nearly $2 billion spent just on contracts on the rollout, and a significant portion of that is payments that exceeded estimates.
Just last month an Obama administration official was claiming that “the Affordable Care Act is working as intended.” That’s in a summer marked by months of stories of health insurance premium hikes, all sorts of troubles for the health care exchanges, watchdog reports that Obamacare is vulnerable to fraud, and ongoing problems and confusion from last year’s enrollment period.
As Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said earlier this summer, “Obamacare is built upon the intellectually lazy idea that we can simply legislate a desirable outcome into existence; that we can tell a hulking federal bureaucracy to simply bureaucratize affordable healthcare into being. Unfortunately, life doesn’t work that way. Reality always intervenes, just as we’ve been seeing with the pain of Obamacare these past few years — pain that will only continue until Washington Democrats join with us to enact a serious, bipartisan approach that actually addresses many of our health care challenges and dispenses with the failed policies of this Administration.”
