Next Step In Stopping Internet Regulation
Phil Kerpen, American Solutions: With the help of millions of people, we won the public comment period over the insane proposal to reduce the Internet to a government-controlled "public utility."
We knew we were up against massive corporations like Google and Netflix that wanted you to pay higher bills to make sure they get a free ride. We knew we were up against every major liberal group from Free Press to MoveOn to the Sierra Club . . . but it turns out we were also up against the FCC itself, which was secretly collaborating with all of these liberal groups.
The Washington Post unwittingly blew the whistle on the corruption last week, with an article detailing how FCC staff was working to maximize the count of comments to massively expand the agency's power by turning the Internet into a "public utility," as well as directly referring reporters to spokesmen for liberal groups in a coordinated media strategy. Emails, the Post reported "revealed an unusual collaboration" between bureaucrats and liberal activists. The liberal groups "asked the agency to pass along any press inquiries" and "advocates and bureaucrats worked together to correct the record."
The Washington Post - like their FCC sources who were "correcting" the record - made no mention of the fact that freedom activists opposed to regulation actually won the comment battle; in fact it didn't even acknowledge the existence of people like you and me.
It is becoming increasingly clear that the FCC intends to move forward with its radical proposal to seize control of the Internet and to work with liberal extremists and a biased media to pretend there is no meaningful opposition. This "unusual collaboration" is between a government agency and a group whose founder famously said he wanted "to remove brick by brick the capitalist system itself, rebuilding the entire society on socialist principles."
Our elected officials cannot allow the FCC to become captive to this kind of thinking. We've already sent over 2.4 million letters to Congress urging them to step in and put a stop to the FCC's corrupt collaboration with these extremist groups to turn the Internet into a "public utility." But Congress hasn't acted yet, and the liberal groups are pouring in letters too. We need to get even more pressure on.
Please click here now to write to Congress and demand they STOP the FCC effort to regulate the Internet.
P.S. There has been an almost complete media blackout of our efforts, with not just the Washington Post but also the New York Times, National Journal, and outlets all over the country pretending the liberal activists are the only ones who exist. It's frustrating, but we just need to keep demanding Congress listen to us until we cannot be ignored.
