TAA Vote In House Tomorrow (See Action Item) While Senate Dems Filibuster Funds for Troops & Defense
Today in Washington, D.C. - June 15, 2015
The House reconvened at Noon today. Did the pledge and adjourned until 4 PM today (whn the rest of the House members will be back from their weekends in their home states.
The Senate will reconvene at 2 PM today. Following an hour of morning business, the Senate will resume consideration of H.R. 1735, the Fiscal Year 2016 Defense Authorization bill. At 5:30 PM, the Senate will vote on two executive branch nominations.
Americans for Limited Government addresses the pending battle on TAA:
The House of Representatives is on the verge of passing Obamatrade. The only thing stopping them is failure to pass Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), and Speaker Boehner is going to bring that up on Tuesday.
What shocks even seasoned Capitol Hill observers is that the TAA vote that Boehner is pushing actually raises taxes by $750 million to pay for a labor union bailout program. A program that Big Labor is actively lobbying against!!!
Please contact your Congressman both by phone (202)225-3121 and through this email tool and tell him or her to vote no on TAA. Tell him or her that raising taxes to pay for a labor union bailout needs to be opposed no matter what pressure Speaker Boehner brings.
If TAA passes, Obama will be given fast track trade authority. If not, we can still beat this enormous grant of power that Boehner wants to give Obama.
Please email your Congressman now, and then call him on Monday and Tuesday. Tell Congress to vote no on TAA. In the Senate, Democrats Threaten Filibuster Of Pay Raise and 401(k) For Troops (serving less than 20 years), While Demanding More Spending On Government Bureaucracies.
National Journal writes, “Senate Democrats hope to stop a lauded defense authorization bill this week before President Obama has a chance to veto it. It will mark their latest, but by no means last, vote in protest of mandatory across-the-board budget cuts that were agreed to four years ago . . . .
“Blocking the annual National Defense Authorization Act would be an extraordinary move if Democrats can pull it off. The bill is widely considered one of the most important pieces of business for Congress each year. It is generally written on a bipartisan basis, and it contains hundreds of provisions to assist the military in its various operations. This year's bill includes a pay raise for the troops and a long-awaited 401(k) program for service members who serve fewer than 20 years—that is, most of them. Voting ‘no’ is politically dangerous, opening lawmakers up to accusations that they don't love America.” . . .
“[Republicans] are daring rank-and-file Democrats to break with their party leaders on a politically popular bill that takes care of America's troops. ‘I would think this would be of some concern to common-sense Democrats. They have to be wondering if their leaders have totally lost it, completely lost it,’ [Senate Majority Leader] McConnell said on the floor.”
Speaking to National Journal, Sen. Deb Fischer (R-NE) asked the key question: “I can't imagine how you could vote 'no' and be able to go home and look at your constituents. How do you explain to them that you voted no in taking care of our military and our national security?”
This should be an especially difficult question for Democrats to answer given that their purpose for attempting a filibuster of this critical defense bill is to get more money for agencies like the EPA, IRS, and other bureaucracies.
As Leader McConnell put it, “Democrat leaders seem to think that the pay raise for a soldier who gives everything to protect our country, and who would give anything to provide for her kids, isn’t something she’s earned, but something they can gamble with — in a high-stakes game of Shutdown Roulette. Democrat leaders don’t seem the least bit bothered by the dire national security implications of what they’re doing. They’ve packed the car for their Filibuster vacation and they’re ready to hit the road — whatever the consequences for our country.
“They’re heading down this road at a time when ‘the United States has not faced a more diverse and complex array of crises since the end of the Second World War.’ Those are the words of Henry Kissinger. And he’s right. From Beijing, Moscow, and the tribal areas of Pakistan to Ramadi and Tehran, we see unrest and global threats that threaten American values and American interests.
“And what do we see from Democrat leaders? A serious plan? . . . At a time when our military families need all the support they can get, Democrat leaders reverted to partisan form and are now threatening to blow up a bipartisan bill.”

The reason we voted in a Republican majority in the US House in Senate appears to be--so Boehner could give Obama EVERY SINGLE THING OBAMA WANTS!
