Republicans Are Getting Ready To Raise Gas Taxes.
by Phil Kerpen, Contributing Author: We secured a small but important victory at the end of May when Congress passed a highway bill without raising the gas tax. Unfortunately, that two-month highway bill only lasts until July 31, so we’re a near the deadline again and there’s another real risk of a bipartisan deal to raise gas taxes.
Democrat Senator Dick Durbin has openly stated that he’ll oppose another short-term bill – and of course he wants a huge gas tax hike. Republican Senator Bob Corker continues to push his 12 cent gas tax hike, and we told you about Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Renacci, who wants a new Super Committee with the power to raise gas taxes.

William, we urge you to click here and encourage your representative to vote NO on ANY federal gas tax hike!
It gets worse. Last week a conservative Republican House member from South Carolina, Tom Rice, floated the idea of a 10 cent gas tax hike. He wants it to be paired with an income tax cut. But somehow we suspect that the jump at the pump will come while we’re still waiting for the income tax relief. It’s too clever by half.
We need to keep it simple: NO FEDERAL GAS TAX HIKE!
All of these bills not only raise the gas tax, they also set it to automatically increase every year forever. We can’t let it happen.
There are only a couple of weeks left before the current federal highway bill expires. Let’s keep the pressure on to stop any gas tax hike and keep working to return authority over highways to states and localities. Please click here tell Congress: NO federal gas tax hike!

It's Crap like this that will drive GOP voters to go #ThirdParty....
Sure way to elect Clinton.
Damn the @GOP Washington Insider Elite...
We need a Flat Tax starting at the first dollar of income.......around 10% to 15%
No Douglas Gottwald we need the Fair Tax to eliminate the IRS, maximize growth of our GDP, and eliminate the payroll tax and withholding to eliminate the argument of the Minimum Wage and focus rightly on the Maximum Wage!
Fair Tax as in Sales Tax?
There is no argument on the Minimum Wage....it should be eliminated.
Go to www.fairtax.org and answer your own question. I anticipate resistance immediately when a person asks about the Fair Tax without apparent background revealed in the question posed.
So please bone up on it in your own time at the website. Once you understand it you will demand it. But understanding takes time and personal commitment to become aware. Ok?
I get this Same "Read This" every time I shoot down a Fair Tax. If you only receive taxes from money spent MANY people will be paying taxes with money the Federal and State Government gave them. That is not participating. Flat Tax turns the IRS into a very simple Collections Agency and a 3rd Grader can do anyone's Taxes. Most Important ALL pay something on what they earned.
This whole part is complete nonsense.
Pay Tax on Only What You Spend
Be in control of your financial destiny. You alone can control your tax burden. If you’re thrifty, you’ll pay lower taxes than somebody who is not. Most importantly, you’ll be taxed fairly. Learn more about what is taxed.
- See more at: https://fairtax.org/about/how-fairtax-works...
Douglas, the flat income tax is not fair and neither is the payroll tax on the working poor. The IRS is the LARGEST arm of the federal government and has been used by both Democratic and Republican Presidents to harass and punish opponent political enemies.
So even if you dismiss the Flat Tax.....the Fair Tax is a Bucket full of holes.
Hard to use an arm when it is reduced to a stub.
Choice tax or confiscation is the real argument. Just like the gas tax is self limited because you pay as you consume.
The design was based on stakeholder studies and constructed outside of Congress completely.
Flat Tax just say everyone contributes........The Government is on it's own to live in the Budget. Guess you'll just keep peddling the Fair Tax Snake Oil.
James Madison made the argument for a consumption tax as the answer to limited tax expansion. When everyone has skin-in-the-game no one group can be taken from at the cost of another.
So the next Congress reinstates the full income tax after it was flattened. And worse yet like Europe a VAT or Valued Added Tax as Dr. Ben Carson has floated already would be next. NOT capable if we pass the Fair Tax!!!
Fine you want a Fair Tax............First Eliminate all Public Assistance.........then it would be Fair.

Pass the Fair Tax first as it is a bill and we work on your angle next.
In a perfect World, we would have a 10% Flat Income Tax on Wages and Investment Appreciation. No Corp Tax. The Whole Status of Non Profit would then.disappear That Simple.... Everything else goes away. The Federal Budget would consist of that Revenue........that is ALL they need.
You sir make sense only up to a point. The Fair Tax accomplishes zero corporate income tax and limits government growth because people have a choice and see the cost of government on the retail sales receipt and cannot play winner and loser with the tax code.
And finally ruminate on this Douglas Gottwald. The projected shortfall of funding to meet Social Security and Medicare is over $240 Trillion Dollars. That is $240,000,000,000,000.00 and more.
The only way to stay ahead of this economic collapse is to maximize growth of our GDP. The only tax plan that maximizes GDP and more importantly sustains that growth curve is the one and only Fair Tax!
80 of the leading University Economic Professors in America have endorsed the Fair Tax plan to save America by maximizing ECONOMIC GROWTH!
SS and Medicare cannot be phased out overnight, but they do need to disappear. Example: If we were to calculate that anyone born after 2020 would never participate in the program. With enough distance out these very underacheiving programs can go.
Flat Tax has no winners or losers. We are all Taxed Completely as Individuals. I know what I propose on a Flat Tax is the Full Extreme. I could see a Compromise where the Tax begins at around $25,000 of income. A rate around 8%. Then Tiers at certain income levels: 50,000+, 200,000+, etc. with higher %. The process would still be completely flat, no exemption or loopholes. Anyone could file using a Postcard size form.
No I agree to disagree as a tax on income is evil. Tiers are still the idea that your first fruits belong to government. Secondly we will never get rid of Social Security till the payroll tax is eliminated. But first all who have spent their life paying into government through the payroll tax to create their Social Security retirement need that restored to make their commitment good. After the Fair Tax we reform and replace because the payroll trap is gone first with the Fair Tax. I will never support taxing payroll, taxing income or taxing any producer throughout the pipeline that gets a product finally to retail.
Only a tax at the end of the pipeline at retail with ALL other taxes removed is smart and fair.
You have points sir but you miss the BIG PICTURE completely.
We can't just keep making excuses for the Budget being way too large. And Low Income can't be just be a lifetime situation where a person has to be helped forever, there are plenty of alternatives.
The Fair Tax lets you keep your whole check. That liberates people from the death spiral of working harder and taking home less than they earned by taxing higher. You can pay your house off seven years sooner with the Fair Tax. The Fair Tax makes taxpayers of the underground economy. The income tax fails on that. Identity theft is rampant with all the information required to file an income tax. We are fighting that problem in my family right now.
The corruption of government growth over private responsibility is checked by the Fair Tax. The retailers become the tax collector and are actually paid for collecting the tax. The more retail tax collected the higher the kickback at .0025% take home is rewarded. Too many advantages than I can cover here. Mike Huckabee will speak from the bully pulpit directly to the People and when enlightened they will MAKE their Representative and Senators pass the Fair Tax.
There is still no denying.....Fair Tax allows people to have their taxes paid for them by government. That is just as bad as what we have now.
The state collects the retailers portion of the tax less .0025%. The state keeps .0025% and then remits all the rest to the federal centralized corrupt government.
In a perfect world the state would HOLD that funding in a state chartered bank and only remit to the federal what is enumerated specifically in the Constitution. It could lead to that. But the flat income tax never will.
Well guys ( Jeffrey Locke / Douglas Gottwald ) I appreciated the discussion. Interestingly, the article wI posted addressed an existing consumption sales tax -- aka. Gas Tax. There are already Federal sales tax actually in the works. And, I don't see a rebate for the poor in the Gas Tax.
As an aside, under the FairTax my personal taxes will increase. However, consider the major benefit for liberty and freedom. Under the FairTax there is NO IRS, DOJ, or Fed investigations threats based on Income tax. No envy taxation. It also means everyone including the rich and famous, criminals and illegals will be paying the sales tax.
Remember, until our country changed the Constitution and added an Income Tax which was only to be for a very limited group (sort of a justified envy tax). It should have been repealed before it got out of hand. It is not the Government's business to be the primary employer in the USA or to control employers and employers s and of people's lives in general. If we wanted that, we could have stayed with a "king".
