Democrats Filibuster Amendment to #BadIranDeal Linking Iran Sanctions Relief To American Prisoner Release
Democrats Block Amendment Requiring Release of these American Hostages |
The House reconvened at 10 AM (EST). Bills which may be considered today:
H.R. 348 - "To provide for improved coordination of agency actions in the preparation and adoption of environmental documents for permitting determinations, and for other purposes; providing for consideration of the bill."
H.R.758 - "To amend Rule 11 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure to improve attorney accountability, and for other purposes; and providing for consideration of motions to suspend the rules."
H.R. 3134 - "To provide for a moratorium on Federal funding to Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc.; providing for consideration of the bill."
H.R. 3504 - "To amend title 18, United States Code, to prohibit a health care practitioner from failing to exercise the proper degree of care in the case of a child who survives an abortion or attempted abortion; and for other purposes."
This week, the House will vote on two bills to address the horrific practices uncovered in the Planned Parenthood videos. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) discussed the measures today: “The House will continue to focus our priorities on the American people’s priorities, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished so far this year: efforts to strengthen our economy, to make Medicare more sustainable for the long term, and to stop human traffickers.
“Listen, there’s plenty left to do this year, starting with trying to stop the president’s bad deal with Iran. I said on the House floor last week, that was the beginning of the fight, not the end of the fight. We’ve got to continue to fight for the priorities of America’s middle class.
“We’re also standing with the American people to stop these grisly practices that we’ve seen from some abortion providers throughout our country. Right now, as you’ve heard, we’ve got three committees actively investigating this. We’ll also vote to strengthen the legal protections for infants that are born alive, and…address some of the practices that we’ve seen in these videos. My colleagues on the Democrat side, both in the House and the Senate, should heed what the American people are saying. It’s time to stop these horrific practices and the selling of baby parts in America.”
The Senate reconvened at 10 AM (EST) and resumed consideration of H.J. Res. 61, the vehicle for the resolution of disapproval of the Iran deal.
At 11 AM, the Senate voted 53-45 to filibuster an amendment offered by Leader McConnell that would have prohibited sanctions relief for Iran until the country released American prisoners and recognized Israel.
Following that vote, 42 Democrats then voted for a third time to filibuster the resolution of disapproval of the Iran deal, again preventing an up-or-down vote on the deal.
Despite their insistence that Iran’s continued taking of hostages is a serious issue and saying things like, “The United States must also continue pressing for the release of all U.S. hostages senselessly imprisoned in Iran,” Senate Democrats filibustered an amendment offered by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that would have prohibited Iran from getting sanctions relief until all American prisoners are released and Tehran recognizes Israel.
The rationale for the Senator McConnell's resolution was presented yesterday. The question now is clearly why do Democrats love the #BadIranDeal so much that they would not support the freeing of Four Americans being held in Iranian prisoners primarily for being Americans. And the appear to object to the recognition of Israel by Iran before we release billions of dollars that will be used eventually to "kill, mame and/or destroy others including potential what the Iranian leaders call the "Great Satan" - The United States of America.
