Don’t Let the Feds Control what you Watch!
STOP WASHINGTON FROM CONTROLLING YOUR TELEVISION
by Phil Kerpen, Contributing Author: Mandate Would Allow Tracking of Personal Viewing Habits, Loss of Privacy, Higher Costs
Don't let government bureaucrats decide what's on your television.
That's the plan being hatched at the Federal Communications Commission — new rules that would effectively mandate an additional government-approved set-top box.
Under this government mandate Google and other tech companies could track which programs you watch, bombard you with targeted advertising, and use or sell data about you or your children's viewing habits.
Do we want Washington to force-feed us new set-top boxes we don't want? It will only mean more mandates, higher costs, and loss of privacy.
Innovation in television has already given us Hulu, Amazon, Roku, Apple TV, and apps that allow us to watch programs on our phones, game consoles, and tablets. We don't need the federal government to "fix" what isn't broken.
And we don't need Google and other Silicon Valley giants to benefit from a government mandate that gives them access to our personal, private viewing habits.
Tell the FCC not to add our TVs to the graveyard of government mandates and crony capitalism.
Tell the FCC to stop the government set-top box mandate now!
