Political Incivility Abounds
by Bob McDowell, Contributing Author : President Ronald Reagan said the "Eleventh Commandment" for Republicans must be "Never speak ill of a fellow Republican." It seems this year that individuals holding positions of power in both elective office and GOP Party official positions be it due to being big money donors or elected by insider activists are exerting every trick in the book attempting to thwart the campaign efforts of Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz, R-TX, believed to be one of the most constitutionalists on the political scene.
The levels to which some of those in power positions have descended have greatly disturbed me, as it has always, since being old enough to understand, been the rule and guide of those of the ‘Conservative’ (meaning freedom loving, small government, and following the dictates of the U.S. Constitution) leaders of the Republican Party. Those who have resorted to calling disrespectful names, telling total lies, and shouting down candidates whom they do not want seem to be acting more like some of the worst of the officials with a "D" behind their names.
Unfortunately, such conduct by those in politics and government will without doubt engender similar conduct among the general population, or as the old saying goes: ‘monkey see, monkey do’. Thus, we now have too many who do not hesitate to resort to such actions in both their business and their advertising. Then this bleeds on down to the majority of the population who feel they can act and talk the same as those who spout meanness and non-truth in their public pontifications.
Then those who are misguided vote to put or keep such individuals in political power. Naturally the acceptance of this conduct tells the public ‘civil service’ population that it is quite permissible to act with the same sort of questionable attitudes and conduct. The net result is the situation we presently have at most levels of government. No wonder that there now exists is an attitude of ‘ruling elite’ by those elected or employed by government. With a result that we ‘outsiders’ are forced to live (exist) in adverse conditions of exorbitant taxes and excessive regulations. The net result is a vast reduction in the freedoms originally guaranteed in the Constitution.
As written in Proverbs, "When evil rules, the people groan, but when honesty rules, the people rejoice". Today, we can see and experience the results of several decades of less than honest ‘rulers’ in the USA who do every thing possible to benefit themselves at the expense of those being ruled, - us. Who made these people King over us! They also do note hesitate to issue ‘reports’ on the economy that are completely misstated or outright lies. Their goal appears to be to mislead the gullible and misinformed in the population of the actual conditions.
Maybe the population - the ‘sleeping giant’ – has awakened considering the unusually strong showing being seen in the Trump campaign. In my opinion, he is demonstrating rare common sense with his campaign tactics of avoiding the misguidance offered by hired ‘campaign advisers.’ From my experience and observation, these “advisers” are more in it to benefit their own financial situation. Trump has also been blunt in speech and has used strong wording in what he says which must appeal to a substantial segment of the population.
It continues to disturb me the way the party ‘establishment’ individuals not only wish to derail Trump but also Cruz and are seeking to nominate a more ‘moderate candidates. We all remember where that got us in the last general election. Either Trump or Cruz would be far better in the ‘Oval Office’ than the current occupant or the two candidates with a "D" behind their name.
My fear is of faux conservatives seeking to influence the elections and who would rather loose the presidential election to the Democrats, even a socialist, rather than loose so that their personal power, voice, income, etc. in conservative circles.
