Reasons To Be Optimistic
Gary Bauer Early Review of Potential Election Outcome
by Gary Bauer, Contributing Author: Nobody knows for certain how today's elections will play out. But here are some reasons you should be optimistic.
Two weeks ago, some Democrats declared the election over. They cancelled advertising in blue states and scheduled events in red states, hoping for a big landslide. But in the last 72 hours, Hillary Clinton has been scrambling to defend blue states such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Mexico and New Hampshire.
Speaking of New Hampshire, Donald Trump won the Midnight Vote. Three small towns in New Hampshire allow their residents to vote at midnight, casting the first ballots of Election Day. In that tally, Trump won 32 votes to Hillary's 25.
In Ohio, early voting and absentee ballots are down in Democrat strongholds like Cleveland.
As we reported yesterday, there are signs of strong GOP early voting in key states such as Florida and North Carolina. Late yesterday, news broke that Republicans took the lead in Colorado.
Pollster and focus group guru Frank Luntz tweeted around noon, "Watch Michigan. Working-class turnout is looking much higher than expected. Trump may actually have a chance.
The Republican National Committee gets a lot of criticism, but in the last four years it has out-registered the Democrats in new voters in a number of swing states.
The final poll by Investor's Business Daily, the most accurate poll in recent elections, has Donald Trump leading Hillary Clinton by two points -- 45% to 43%.
In spite of the bitter #NeverTrumpers in Washington, D.C., polling shows that GOP voters are sticking with Trump/Pence. For example, in the IBD poll mentioned above, 7% of Democrats are voting for Trump, while 6% of Republicans say they are voting for Clinton.
Early exit polls indicate that the "most important characteristic" voters are looking for in the next president is "a strong leader."
Left-leaning statistician Nate Silver noted recently that Hillary Clinton was significantly underperforming in the polls compared to Obama at this point in the 2012 race. Silver also cautioned that the number of undecided voters remains unusually large, suggesting many polls could well be wrong.
Of course, there are reasons to be concerned. I am always worried about cheating. There are reports of some voting machines in Pennsylvania flipping votes from Trump to Clinton.
One Utah county had to abandon its voting machines this morning and it switched to paper ballots.
In recent weeks there have been disturbing reports of zombie voters, dead people voting Democrat. Is that what the media mean when they say Hillary has a better "ground" game than us?
Later today I will be sending you a summary of the states to watch tonight as the results come in.
In the meantime, I am on my way to New York, where I look forward to celebrating a great victory tonight with the Trump/Pence team.
Thank you, my friends, for your support and prayers. We have used your resources to do everything we could to defend our values. Now it is in the hands of the voters. We are hopeful, but no matter what happens tonight, please know that we will never give up in the good fight for faith, family and freedom!
