‘The American People Deserve A Functioning Government’
Flashback – SEN. SCHUMER: ‘Who In America Doesn't Think A President, Democrat Or Republican, Deserves His Or Her Picks For Who Should Run The Agencies? Nobody
SEN. MITCH McCONNELL (R-KY): “Look, we all get it. Democrats are having a tough time coming to grips with the election results. They wish it had turned out differently. I understand their disappointment. I know their base is rioting against reality. I know the far left is demanding obstructionist tactics at any cost. I realize that Leader Schumer in particular is under immense pressure from the radical fringes of our politics. But he and his party can’t allow themselves to be led around by the far left.” (Sen. McConnell, “Give Neil Gorsuch an Up-Or-Down Vote,” Politico, 2/6/17)
FORMER SENATE MAJORITY LEADERS DOLE & LOTT: “The new minority leader in the Senate, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., has vowed that he and his fellow Democrats will aggressively target President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominees as part of an effort to stretch the confirmation hearings of these accomplished Americans for months. Some advice from two people who’ve been there: It’s a bad idea. The American people said with a bold voice on Election Day that they want Washington to get into gear. Stalling the confirmation of presidential nominees en masse will be viewed, rightly, as just an extension of the petty politics that Americans are so strongly rejecting.”(Sens. Dole & Lott, “Schumer Should Follow Precedent On Trump Nominations,” USA Today, 1/11/17)
First Democrats Slowed Cabinet Confirmations To The Slowest Pace Since George Washington…
FLASHBACK: “Two weeks in, Donald Trump has the smallest confirmed Cabinet in decades… On his first day in office, President Jimmy Carter had eight of his Cabinet nominees confirmed. Within two days of his inauguration, Ronald Reagan had 12 of his nominees in place. Within 24 hours after his inauguration, Bill Clinton had 13 in place. Even President George W. Bush, whose transition period was swept up in a dramatic Supreme Court decision about his election, had seven of his nominees confirmed on Jan. 20, and four more in four days. President Obama — as Republicans are pointing out — had seven in place by the time he and Michelle Obama had their first dance.” (“Two Weeks In, Donald Trump Has The Smallest Confirmed Cabinet In Decades,” Washington Post, 2/2/17)
“The Senate's confirmation of Trump's Cabinet is the slowest in modern history... Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan had their whole Cabinets confirmed at this point; Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama were nearly finished; and even George H.W. Bush had nine of his Cabinet secretaries in place despite opposition from a Democratic Senate. Trump, though, has only four Cabinet secretaries confirmed, although several more — including attorney general nominee Jeff Sessions — are expected to clear this week.” (“‘The Senate Is Coming Apart,’” Politico, 2/5/2017)
…Then Liberals Immediately Demanded Everybody Should Resign!
Hundreds of liberals demanded Betsy DeVos resign the day after she wasconfirmed as Secretary of Education on February 7, 2017.
But Only If Resignations Hadn’t Been Demanded Before People Were Even In Office…
Dozens of liberals demanded Scott Pruitt resign before he was evenconfirmedas EPA Administrator on February 17, 2017.MoveOn: “We demand that Scott Pruitt resign as head of the EPA”(MoveOn, Petition, 2/17/17)
79 liberals signed on February 16, 2017 or earlier
…And Now, Former Reid & Schumer Staffers Promise Never-Ending Opposition: ‘We’ll Never Reach A Point Where We Say, “OK, That’s Enough”’
“Democrats Launch Scorched-Earth Strategy Against Trump… The bulk of the party has settled on a scorched-earth, not-now-not-ever model of opposition. In legislative proposals, campaign promises, donor pitches and even in some Senate hearings, Democrats have opted for a hard-line, give-no-quarter posture, a reflection of a seething party base that will have it no other way. …teeth-baring, no-holds-barred opposition.”(“Democrats Launch Scorched-Earth Strategy Against Trump,” Politico, 1/26/2017)
Perhaps Sen. Schumer Should Listen To... Sen. SchumerSEN. SCHUMER: ‘Things Should Never Have Gotten To This Point’
SEN. CHUCK SCHUMER (D-NY): “Things should never have gotten to this point. We've been forced here by an extreme group that has waged a successful war on government. We believe firmly that government has to function to help average families out of their morass. But, unfortunately, there's a group … who wants to stop everything dead in its tracks. Judicial nominees, executive nominees, and legislation. And we've seen their success. ... When a cabinet post goes unfulfilled for months on end, they think they win. Dysfunction is their goal, and they've been achieving it a lot recently.” (Sen. Schumer, Press Conference, 11/21/13)
SCHUMER:“Who in America doesn't think a president, Democrat or Republican, deserves his or her picks for who should run the agencies? Nobody. But there's a long list of Cabinet and subcabinet positions that have been opposed. …the American people deserve a functioning government, not gridlock. And if our government continues to be gridlocked, people are gonna lose total faith in government and it'll be a different America.” (Sen. Schumer, Press Conference, 11/21/13)
