Former EPA Head
Gina McCarthy responds
to repeal WOTUS Rule! |
ARRA News Service: Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning issued the following statement praising the Trump administration for proposing rescinding the
Waters of the United States rule:
"The Trump administration is to be praised for proposing to do away with a rule that regulates all waters of the United States under the terms of the Clean Water Act, something that was never intended by the statute.Thankfully, we have a president determined to protect all Americans from a regulatory regime so severe it thought it could claim dominion over every puddle in the country, threatening property rights and the viability of U.S. agriculture."U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) has been a staunch opponent of the WOTUS rule and has worked to overturn it and voted to nullify the rule last Congress and cosponsored legislation to address this aggregious overreach. Boozman released the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it is dismantling the Obama administration’s overreaching Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule:
“I applaud the Trump administration for the withdrawal of this overreaching and burdensome rule and returning power to private citizens. This is a win for Arkansas homeowners, small businesses and family farmers who will regain control from Washington of decisions on how to best use their land. I look forward to working with my colleagues and the administration to ensure we follow Congressional intent of the Clean Water Act when developing a rule that protects waters sources and the rights of landowners.”Yesterday, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson issued a statement applauding a Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt and the Army Corps of Engineers proposal to rescind the 2015 Clean Water Rule and return to the previous regulatory status.
“Arkansas is a state that supports clean water and has taken great strides to protect and enhance our natural environment. ... I commend the EPA, Administrator Pruitt, and the Army Corps of Engineers for withdrawing the burdensome requirements and federal overreach of the 2015 Clean Water Rule.”A ruling from the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals had previously halted implementation of the Clean Water Act after determining that the rule likely constituted regulatory overreach. With the rule being officially rescinded, the power to regulate ponds, wetlands and other non-navigable bodies of water would return to the states.
