ERA on Agenda Tomorrow -Arkansas HJR1002

The ERA bill, HJR1002 will be heard before the State Agencies and Governmental Affairs House Committee tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. as a special order of business. Committee Members' Names, Email and Contact Info for the are on line at -- Click Now

We need as many people as we can get to come to the hearing. We have been told by legislators that the people who have signed on as sponsors don't really know what the bill will do. If you can't come to the hearing or even if you can, please do one of the following.

1. Call one of the committee members at this number and leave a message for them asking them to not let ERA bill, HJR1002 out of the committee because ERA has been used as the legal basis for court-mandated, Government Funded Abortions and gay marriage in some states. You can do this by calling House: 501-682-6211 and telling the person who answers that you want to leave a message for a representative.
2. Email the Committee members and give them the same message.

Summary of ERA Agenda in Arkansas:
Instead of lobbying for special rights in the face of growing opposition, the Left is promoting legislation that would quietly usher in their agenda through the backdoor at the state level. Arkansas is facing a powerful challenge by anti-family groups lobbying for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), which, until recently, was a largely irrelevant piece of feminist propaganda dating back to the early 1970s. Now, state Rep. Lindsley Smith (D) is dusting off the amendment in a campaign to "protect women," when in fact, the U.S. Constitution already does so. Smith is pushing her state to ratify the ERA, which seeks not to end discrimination, injustice, or chauvinism, but to undermine motherhood, traditional sexuality, and innate gender differences.

The ERA specifically states that there can be no discrimination based on "sex," language which has since been used in the courts as an argument to legalize same-sex marriage in such states as Maryland, Hawaii and New Mexico. Now the Left, desperate to find some way around public opposition to homosexual marriage, hopes to revive the amendment under the guise of "female oppression." As the Arkansas Republican Assembly points out, the ERA is problematic because it surrenders more rights than it confers. If approved, the ERA could forfeit: women's rights by requiring them to serve in the military; voters' rights by allowing the courts to interpret whether the ERA nullifies the state's marriage protection amendment; and the right to life by requiring the state to pay for abortions as it would for any other "medical procedure."

Again - the ERA is scheduled for debate tomorrow morning, so again as detailed above please take action. The ERA movement in Arkansas is part of an aggressive strategy to obliterate the traditional family. What happens there could determine the fate of the ERA in America.

The ERA amendment has nothing to do with "obliterating the traditional family". Stop spreading lies. Perhaps you should focus on the high rate of divorce if you are so concerned about the "traditional family". Married women are already in the minority. Why not focus on the reasons why women no longer desire to be in a "traditional family".

In response to Mindy's comment

If you review all of the links to the information provided, you will note that most are provided are provided by or are by women. The ERA very much would affect the traditional family and core of society in the United States. The ARRA is pro-traditional marriage and like you are concerned about the high rate of divorce. Although the topic of divorce has no direct linkage with the ERA, divorce is a topic that deserves discussion and we would welcome your reasoned input on the causes of divorce.

Remember with every divorce in Arkansas, at least one a man and one woman are involved. The logic of your statement that "Married women are already in the minority” would also then apply to "married men being in the minority." One could expect that with the rise of those staying single longer, with the death of spouses and with the divorce occuring that number of married adults would be in the minority when compared to the total numbers adults. What do these facts have to do with the ERA? Studies show that the majority of both women and men who are single would prefer to be married to a member of the opposite sex.

Since the ERA offers no additional protection for either the married or the unmarried and could be used to undermine the traditional family, what do you mean by "Why not focus on the reasons why women no longer desire to be in a traditional family?" Are you advocating that the majority of women do not wish to be married to the opposite sex? This has already been proven not to be true by various studies. I agree we might need to ask "Are their reasons why some women and some men no longer seek to be in a "traditional family"? But that does not have any direct relevance to the ERA unless the purpose of the ERA is to advance alternate life style forms of marriage which has been addressed by the opponents of the ERA amendment.

I like how you respond to her evasive argument with the same tactic, though much more lengthy. Your only real retort is: "The ERA very much would affect the traditional family and core of society in the United States." Wow! It's no wonder you have to influence people by yelling real loud and providing conjectures that are untrue and supported by misconstrued "facts." Name one state where an ERA has caused the abortion/marriage/military laws you reference to be overturned. Done...yes you are...because there isn't one. The simple "threat" that there could be a lawsuit (that would obviously not be ruled in favor as you backhandingly reference in your own argument) is not an argument at all. If it was, then any law you support (i.e. marriage amendments, speeding laws, homicide laws, etc.) would be pointless to enact because they would be challenged, too, right? How about you provide real information to your readers and not misinformation.

The prior comment asks, "Comment moderation has been enabled. All comments must be approved by the blog author." Mind commenting on that?"

Sure we would - Thanks for asking!

The ARRA blog is a Conservative Republican blog and will advocate for certain positions. However, unlike many blogs, we allow and post comments with opposing views and discourse.

We even allow anonymous postings. Also, a commenter has the option to identify their name or pseudonym and to identify the URL for their blog, website or forum at which they advocate in detail for their positions. For these postings, even the person posting an opposing view get free promotion of their blog, website or forum.

But we do have some guidelines. The following is posted in the footer of our blog: "Comments are moderated. Supporting & opposing comments are welcome. Language deemed to be "gutter language" by the editorial staff will not be displayed."

In addition, we do not post comments which are simply a "mean attack" on the blog, on the ARRA, on a writer or referenced source, or on other peoples comments. We also do not post comments which are inane -- irrelevant jokes, advertisements, spam, etc. that are not within the scope of the blog or the topic being discussed. We also do not post comments which have links to websites, blog, etc. that promotes pornography, illegal activity, terrorism, etc.
