FairTax Huckabee Has Best Net-favorables With GOP Voters

Even though potential candidates like Rep Michelle Bachmann (R-MN), Herman Cain, and others are not in the Gallup poll, The Hill reports: Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee enjoys the highest net-favorable impression with Republicans among potential candidates for president in 2012, a new poll said Monday.

Huckabee is the Republican candidate with the largest margin between Republicans' favorable and unfavorable impressions of him, a Gallup poll found, while other candidates struggled with low recognition rates.

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich enjoys a 24% net-favorable rating at 24%, the poll found, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at 23%, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin at 22%, Rep. Mike Pence (IN) at 19%, Rep. Ron Paul (TX) at 18%, former Sen. Rick Santorum (PA) at 17%, Sen. John Thune (SD) at 17%, and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour at 15%. Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty stands at 13% and Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels is at 11%.

Of the major GOP contenders for the nomination in 2012, Thune, Pence and Daniels struggle most with low name-recognition among Republicans. Twenty percent of Republicans said they recognize Thune, 22% could identify Pence, and 26% expressed familiarity with Daniels.

Palin enjoys the highest name recognition among Republicans, at 95%, reflecting her high media proliferation on multiple platforms. . . .

Potential candidates who have low familiarity with GOP voters still have plenty of time to help create an impression on the national scene, with the first nominating contests a full two years away. . . . [Full Story]

Yes, it looks to me like Huckabee has the nomination to lose. I'm not sure about the election, but he has his own show on FOX, and is beloved by millions of viewers each week.

His name recognition is phenomenol amoung likely GOP primary voters. And while he has a few things in his past to explain, who does not?

Governor Huckabee can also be quite charming and self effacing, and is naturally gifted speaker, quick on his feet.

The Fairtax is Huckabee's great weakness, ironically. The longer and more totally he supports it, the greater his risk.

WHile the Fairtax plan sounds fantastic -- in reality it may be like one of Bernie Madoff's sure fired investments, all hot air. If Huckabee identifies himself with this deceptive (but great sounding) plan, he may go down, when it is exposed.

Mike Huckabee in dead heat with President Obama in Iowa

The Arkansas Republican, who says he is considering a presidential run in 2012, received 43 percent support in the latest release from the Public Policy Polling Institute. The poll is the first indication of exactly what voters in Iowa are thinking.

The same poll found that President Obama receives 46 percent support in the state.

In a match up between Mr. Huckabee and Mr. Obama, Mr. Obama defeats Mr. Huckabee by three percentage points. The president also defeats Republican Mitt Romney by a margin of 47 percent to 41 percent.

A majority of the state now approves of the president’s job performance, giving him a 50 percent to 43 percent margin, a reversal of the 43 percent to 52 percent Ms. Obama posted the last time PPP polled the state, in late May 2010.

The poll follows an early release that found Mr. Huckabee is leading Republican candidate. Former Alaska Republican governor Sarah Palin and Mr. Romney trail Mr. Huckabee.
