Chart of the Week: Federal Spending on Defense vs. Entitlements
Providing for the defense of the United States is Congress’ constitutional obligation. Lawmakers should recognize defense is a necessity, if not the federal government’s most important responsibility.
In recent years, however, defense spending has continued to decline as entitlement spending increased. Priorities are being misplaced as the gap between entitlement spending and defense spending continues to widen.

Cross posting to PC, good one , Bill.
This does not surprise me at all.
Social security, Medicare, and federal Medicaid are all unconstitutional programs that should be turned over to the states, however, there is no need to spend 42-45% of the entire world's military spending. Why do we need to spend 8x as much as China? There is no reason to spend so much unless there is a plan to use it.

A little judgment would be good. If our government just secured our borders and coast, there would be no need for $800 billion in "defense" costs.
Yea both are bad ha and I'm not surprised either. But I wonder if this takes into account discretionary spending.
The only issue I have with that... SOCIAL SECURITY is NOT an entitlement. Let's remember that people. Next thing you know they will say my MILITARY RETIREMENT is an entitlement. What you INVEST in is NOT an entitlement. Let's get it right
Entitlements are payments to former presidents, jet planes furnished to people like Pelosi, extravagant vacations and world tours by politicians that aren't relevant to the job, cash paid to non working people as a reward for not working, ...like earned income credit, welfare, housing, and all those programs that make it easier to stay home than work, money giveaways to foreign countries without anything in return (other than hate for us). Once these things have been corrected, and if we still have budget trouble, then I would consider looking at reworking Social Security
Don't for get the grants. All that " free money " to write a book, repair your house even free money to take a vacation etc.
