'Gun Control' Is Not About Guns
With the President now reportedly threatening to issue an Executive Order to “tamp down the recent rash of gun violence” and the new and furious debate over the American right to keep and bears arms, it’s important to understand what the Second Amendment was all about in the first place.
by Curtis Coleman, Contributing Author: The Second Amendment to our Constitution reads,
Our founders wisely recognized that the goal of preserving freedom would be served ultimately only by protecting each individual’s right to arms, thus empowering the people to resist tyranny and preserve the republic.
As the debate over gun control intensifies over the coming weeks, it is essential to remember that the right to keep and bear arms isn’t about hunting ducks or deer, it’s entirely about defending liberty from tyranny. And you should doubt the motives of any government that wants to take that right away from you.

by Curtis Coleman, Contributing Author: The Second Amendment to our Constitution reads,
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”To understand the original intent of the Second Amendment, it’s important to understand that our Founders did not trust government. As George Mason put it,
“considering the natural lust of power so inherent in man, I fear the thirst of power will prevail to oppress the people.”English history made two things absolutely clear to our American forefathers: force of arms was the only effective check on government, and standing armies threatened liberty. Recognition of these premises meant that the force of arms necessary to check government had to be placed in the hands of citizens.
Our founders wisely recognized that the goal of preserving freedom would be served ultimately only by protecting each individual’s right to arms, thus empowering the people to resist tyranny and preserve the republic.
