EPA to Control Your Water Coming To Your State If The Agency Gets Its Way
Secret EPA water maps reveal increase in regulatory authority - Demand the maps for your area. Post and share comments on your findings. Below is an update on Colorado.
A Watchdog article by Joshua Sharf reveals a graphic increase shown in EPA's authority in Colorado. He reports: Secret EPA water maps obtained by the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology graphically show the increase reach of the EPA’s regulatory authority over Colorado’s waters under proposed rules supported by Rep. Jared Polis (D-Boulder).
The maps were drawn up in October 2013, but were only turned over to the Committee today.
There is some dispute as to whether the maps relate to the Agency’s proposed Waters of the US Rules, which would bring intermittent and ephemeral waters under the agency’s control. The maps clearly delineate those waters, and were produced at the insistence of the Committee at a July 9 hearing; the EPA maintains that the maps are unrelated to the rule.
The map for Colorado is particularly alarming:
The blue is perennial water that the agency may already over see; intermittent waters are in yellow, and ephemeral waters are in orange. As is evident from the map, a substantial portion of Colorado’s water is the result of snowpack and snowmelt, which is by definition ephemeral or intermittent.
The Committee does not include any Colorado representatives.
