Another Bad Deal - Obama's Failure - Our Broken Immigration System - Summing It Up: Obama’s Failure
by Gary Bauer, Contributing Author: Another Bad Deal - A budget deal has been reached in Washington. It is a mammoth bill, at least 2,000 pages long. I am sad to report that I don't see what our side got out of it.
It is pretty clear, however, what Obama, Pelosi and Reid got. I won't ruin your Christmas by going through all the gory details, but I'll just mention two.
Planned Parenthood gets full funding. So, too, does the Syrian refugee program, even as the administration continues to insist that no changes are needed to ensure that there are no jihadists among the refugees.
Here's the bottom line: Congressional leaders faced a choice. One option was to risk a government shutdown, which the media would blame on us. The second option was to risk alienating the conservative base of the party, and, incidentally add more fuel to Donald Trump's candidacy, which is driven by its disdain for the D.C. establishment.
The leadership decided that between these two unpleasant options, it was a better bet to risk alienating the conservative base than to have the media convince the American public that Republicans were shutting down the government at Christmas time.
I think their calculation is wrong.
Obama's Failure - Here's the latest evidence of the utter failure of the Obama Administration: According to the Pew Research Center, a majority of Americans (52%) now say that the government is failing to reduce the threat of terrorism -- its lowest rating ever since 9/11. And 57% of Americans disapprove of Obama's handling of the issue.
Protecting the country is the government's first responsibility. On that score, the American people overwhelmingly agree that Barack Obama is a failure.
And it's not just Obama. Americans have watched our leaders refer to jihadi attacks as "workplace violence."
They have read about the failures of our immigration system to check the social media posts of people coming into the country. They read about thousands of children walking across our border. (If little kids can walk in, who else is getting in?)
They have concluded -- rightly so -- that politically correct policies have created systemic failures across the entire federal government!
Not surprisingly, Pew finds that Republicans have a 12-point advantage over Democrats on the issue of terrorism, which has surpassed the economy as the nation's top concern. Republicans also have the advantage on gun control, the economy and immigration.
Eight years ago, Barack Obama stopped Hillary Clinton from getting to the White House. It looks like he just might do it again -- although this time inadvertently.
Our Broken Immigration System - Whenever a conversation turns to immigration, someone inevitably says, "Our immigration system is broken." Yes, it is. But most reforms being proposed (like those granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants) won't do anything to fix what is REALLY wrong -- the broken, ineffective bureaucracy.
Yesterday, top Obama immigration officials testified before a House Oversight and Government Reform committee hearing regarding the vetting process for those seeking to enter the country. To the surprise of many, one official stated that since the 9/11 attacks, 9,500 people have had their visas revoked -- specifically due to terrorism-related issues.
Given that visa overstays account for a huge part of our illegal immigration problem, Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) asked the obvious question -- does the government know where these 9,500 people are today?
A top State Department official answered, "I don't know."
That is beyond inexcusable. It is another example of the Obama Administration's failures that are putting our nation at risk.
Tashfeen Malik, one of the San Bernardino shooters, is perhaps the most notorious example of our failed vetting process. But she is by no means the only failure.
Senator Jeff Sessions has identified more than 30 examples of foreigners admitted to the country who later turned against us.
Yes, our immigration system needs major reform. Let's make sure those reforms begin by putting our national security first.
