The Pledge of Allegiance & Protesters
I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.
by Dr. Jack Sternberg, Contributing Author: Recently I was at a political meeting and as usual we began the meeting with the above Pledge of Allegiance. As I repeated the words and came to the word, INDIVISIBLE, I was overcome with sadness. As I continue to watch TV and read newspapers and read various writings on the Internet, this country is no longer INDIVISIBLE. The ideological differences between conservatives and liberals and those on the right versus those on the left have become so great that the we are no longer one country, but two. WE ARE DIVIDED.
Whether it be individuals or groups of people or our elected representatives, the divide between them has never been wider or more contentious. Each side believing they are right and righteous.
As I watch the protests in the streets, I am sickened to my core. When I hear the vial words and sentiments spoken by the leaders of these protests, I have to admit that I am frightened for the future of America. I just can't imagine how they can be that angry that they have become, in my opinion, delusional and demented. Some have gone so far as to call for violence and riots. This is how third world countries act; not America. What will happen if this behavior doesn't decrease but increases?
Then I watch the Senate hearings and listen to the Democratic Senators and Congressmen and their hypocrisy and childish behavior disgusts me. They act as if it isn't the prerogative of each President to put into place cabinet member and Supreme Court Justices who agree with their political philosophy and agenda. They act as if they have been totally innocent when they were in the majority and using their power to change America to their image.
I could go on and on but what good would it do? I see no simple or short term solution to these problems. I'm glad that at least for the next four years we have a President who wishes to follow the Rule of Law. That he will put into the Supreme Court at least one if not three conservative judges. That he will act with common sense and not political correctness.
Maybe what we're seeing is just the natural evolution of every democracy as its direction changes. Every great nation has ultimately been invaded from both the enemy within and the enemy from without. Maybe it's inevitable but we conservatives will do our best to keep that from happening for as long as possible.
