Make Trump's Tax Cuts & Regulatory Reforms Permanent!
by Phil Kerpen, Contributing Author: The first year of the Trump administration saw remarkable accomplishments on both tax and regulatory relief…
…And with wages rising and the economy strengthening, the most important priority for Congress should be locking in these historic accomplishments.
As I mentioned in my recent column, nearly all of Trump's individual tax cuts are set to expire in 2025.1 Why? Because Senate Democrats filibustered Trump's jobs bill, and the GOP was forced to craft a bill that adhered to arcane procedural rules to get around the filibuster.
Now that President Trump's tax cuts have resulted in BILLIONS of dollars in bonuses, salary increases, and new investment – it's time for Congress to make these tax cuts permanent.
But the tax cuts are only half of the much brighter economy – which was already sharply improving last year before the tax cuts passed, based on rapid progress in eliminating the Obama regulations that were stifling the economy.
Congress must also act to make Trump's regulatory rollback permanent. We simply cannot allow the next Democratic president to use "a phone and a pen" to put back all the Obama regulations and worse, grind our economy to a halt.
In order to ensure that Trump's regulatory relief stays intact, Congress needs to pass the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act, which would require economically significant regulations to be sent to Congress (and approved by a majority in the House and Senate) before they could take effect. This bill will lock in President Trump's progress in deconstructing the administrative state for the future.
President Trump's tax and regulatory relief is making our economy stronger, and making our paychecks go farther. Congress needs to vote on locking in these gains permanently, and members who oppose doing so need to be held accountable. Let Congress Know Your Position on Making Trump's Tax Cuts & Regulatory Reforms Permanent!
