'That’s Racism Right There!'

by Lloyd Billingsley: “We don’t produce enough engineers. We don’t produce enough doctors. What we do is produce a bunch of scumbag lawyer lobbyists like Elizabeth Warren.”
That was U.S. Senate candidate Shiva Ayyadurai last Sunday in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, where Sen. Elizabeth Warren was holding a meeting at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center. As the Berkshire Eagle reported, Warren told her followers to “keep pushing back” against Republicans and right-wingers.
The India-born Ayyadurai, 54, was also in town and didn’t see any people of color at Warren’s event. So across the street he held forth on the subject of racism. That prompted Warren supporter Paul Solovay of Hillsdale, New York, to approach Ayyadurai, but it wasn’t to listen or ask a question. Instead the paunchy Solovay, 74, pushed the candidate’s bullhorn into his face. As Ayyadurai’s supporters tackled the militant, candidate Ayyadurai carried on.
“That’s racism right there,” the MIT graduate told the crowd. “You don’t know what racism is. You’ve never experienced it.” The candidate called Warren supporters “liberal fascists” adding, “White privilege, eating your organic food while Elizabeth Warren poisons everyone else. Singing your stupid, bloody songs. Wake up, America!”
As Solovay was arrested, Ayyarurai told the crowd “What you just witnessed is how you white supremacists react when you don’t want to hear the truth. I’m a dark-skinned Indian guy – the same guy you claim you want to help.” Many in the crowd might have wondered, who is this guy?
“Our campaign is a 21st-century campaign not a medieval one, where politicians, who have never built or invented anything, beg, bamboozle, and extract money from everyday people," Ayyudurai told the Boston Globe. “In our case, I, a working engineer, inventor and scientist, am bringing new innovation to campaigning to enable a grass-roots movement.”
The Indian immigrant holds four degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology but boasts “no political background.” He has raised $4.64 million, much of it from in-kind contributions from his own clients.
“I’m a person who believes in using your mind,” Ayyudurai told the Eagle. “I’m not a righty or a lefty.” He decries “moral narcissism” on the left and charges that some on the right have betrayed Republican values. So Ayyudurai is running as an independent, and he bears stark contrast to his Democrat opponent.
Ayyudurai did not need to claim he was Indian to get into MIT but Elizabeth Warren claimed Native American heritage to help her access prestigious Ivy League institutions such as Rutgers and Harvard. Warren’s Indian claim is as bogus as Sen. Richard Blumenthal’s boast that he served in Vietnam, and the Atlantic and Washington Post both shot it down in 2012.
Even so, Warren still claimed Native American background in her 2014 A Fighting Chance and some Democrats still tout her as a presidential candidate in 2020. President Trump calls Warren “Pocahontas” but her book shows that “POTUS44as” might be more suitable.
Warren believes that nobody in the United States “got rich on his own.” As she explains, “you moved goods on the roads the rest of us paid for” and used workers “the rest of us paid to educate.” You were safe in your factory “because of police and fire forces the rest of us paid for.”
On the other hand, not much of that dynamic emerges in Warren’s personal story. In that narrative, it was intelligence and old fashioned hard work that powered her rise from humble beginnings in Oklahoma to a prestigious Harvard professorship.
The self-proclaimed economic expert shows little understanding of the role open markets play in prosperity, as opposed to the socialist command economies of Eastern Europe, or basket cases such as Cuba. If people are in financial distress, Warren blames their problems on the banking industry, in her view the flywheel of capitalist greed and trickery. Mortgage salesmen, she writes, “went door to door, often targeting African American and Latino neighborhoods for their highest-cost, most deceptive products.”
If the people lack faith in government, she blames that on Ronald Reagan’s dismissive comments, not on the waste, fraud and abuse unelected bureaucrats impose on the people. All told, Elizabeth Warren emerges as a lock-step Democrat, shrink-wrapped in statist superstition. Independent challenger Shiva Ayyadurai could hardly be more different.
In his view, white supremacy means the supposition that dark-skinned immigrants who work hard and made it on their own must follow the orthodoxies of the white leftist Democrats who supposedly look out for them. If the candidate of color fails to follow along, white thugs like Paul Solovay seek to silence him.
The “violation of free speech,” Ayyadurai told the Eagle, was “a symbol of what could happen to anyone.” The dark-skinned Indian guy won’t stand for it.
“That’s racism right there,” he told the crowd in Great Barrington, as he called out the privileged “liberal fascists.” With pushback like that, the independent immigrant might have a fighting chance.
