Allen West Says Liberals Believe In ‘Equality of Outcomes' . . .
. . . Then Points to the Constitution
by Sydney Monduy: One American veteran wants to warn students not to rely on the total equality that is pushed by progressive politicians.
Allen West, a former Florida congressman, gave a speech during the National Conservative Student Conference in Washington D.C. on Tuesday. He spoke out about how many progressives do not understand what the Constitution means by “pursuit of happiness.”
“Each and every one of us have the equality of opportunity,“ said West. ”That’s what pursuit of happiness means, because here in the United States of America, we believe that wherever you are born, it doesn’t make a difference. Where you have come from, it doesn’t make a difference. The only thing that makes a difference is the drive and determination that you have within yourself to go out there and seize that golden ring.”
Watch:
West understands what it means to work hard for success, growing up in a military family and serving 22 years in the army. However, West does support helping the government and some programs, but says that Americans should not rely on them.
“Don't get me wrong, I believe that we do have a responsibility to our government, I believe in a safety net,” said West. “But let me tell you something, a safety net should never become a hammock. But that's what we see happening so often across all of the United States of America.”
West also addressed issues with popular progressive opinions that are supported by politicians such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
“Here’s a person that’s gonna go and be a representative in the United States Congress…When it comes to a philosophy of government, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has it completely wrong, because she does not believe in equality of opportunity,“ West said. ”What she believes in is an equality of outcomes."
West concluded that through the exchange ideas and talking to people with different opinions, people will eventually see inconsistencies with some progressive arguments.
“Eventually, the folks you’re talking to will come to see the light," said West.
