Rick Scott Sues Elections Supervisor Over Ballots
by Jason Devaney: Florida Gov. Rick Scott's Senate campaign and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) filed a lawsuit against the Broward County elections supervisor as votes continue to be counted — and even discovered — in Scott's tight race with incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla.
The lawsuit is demanding Broward's Brenda Snipes be ordered to turn over several records detailing the counting and collection of ballots cast in Tuesday's election. They are seeking an emergency hearing, as the votes must be certified by noon Saturday.
The lawsuit was filed about the same time Scott ordered state law enforcement officials to investigate the Broward and Palm Beach Counties' voting operation.
"They found 78,000 new votes since Election Day, two days ago, in Broward County, and 15,000 more votes in Palm Beach," Scott told Fox News' "Hannity" on Thursday night. We don't know how many more votes that they are going to come up with, but it sure appears that they are going to find as many votes as they can to win the election."
"So, I have asked the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to do an investigation. We filed a lawsuit, we are going to fight this and we are going to win."
Scott was projected to be the winner in Tuesday's election by around 57,000 votes. Instead, his lead has shrunk down to around 15,000 as of Thursday night.
"It is clear we have some left-wing activists, we have some Democratic, D.C. lawyers coming down here for one purpose: to steal this election," Scott said.
Scott pointed out that counties in Florida's panhandle, which was slammed by the Category 4 hurricane Michael last month and was without power for days, had no issues with turning in their ballots on time this week and tallying up the vote.
"I'm going to fight this all the way," Scott said. "We are going to do everything we can, we're looking at every legal remedy we can exercise, we are going to fight this, and we are going to win this."
Before Scott's appearance on Fox, he spoke at a news conference and accused "unethical liberals" of trying "to steal this election from the great people of Florida."
President Donald Trump weighed in as well, posting this on Twitter on Thursday night:
"Law Enforcement is looking into another big corruption scandal having to do with Election Fraud in #Broward and Palm Beach. Florida voted for Rick Scott!"
