Amy Klobuchar Doubles Down on Global Warming Despite Snow Blizzard
Good Morning America host George Stephanopoulos asked Klobuchar about climate change, referencing Trump's tweet on Sunday.
"Well, it happened again. Amy Klobuchar announced that she is running for President, talking proudly of fighting global warming while standing in a virtual blizzard of snow, ice and freezing temperatures," Trump tweeted. "Bad timing. By the end of her speech she looked like a Snowman(woman)!"
Well, it happened again. Amy Klobuchar announced that she is running for President, talking proudly of fighting global warming while standing in a virtual blizzard of snow, ice and freezing temperatures. Bad timing. By the end of her speech she looked like a Snowman(woman)!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 10, 2019
"Okay, that is so wrong," Klobuchar responded. "I'm sorry if it still snows in the world, but the point is that we know climate change is happening."
"Just this last year, it was one of the fourth hottest years in the history of the world. That’s what’s happening right now," she argued. "We see this Greenland ice sheet melting. Look at those wildfires in Colorado and California."
The 2020 Democrat laughed off Trump's new nickname for her, saying, "It could be so much worse." (Perhaps thinking of "Pocahontas" Elizabeth Warren.) Shooting some invective back in the president's direction, she concluded with a quip: "I’d like to see how his hair would fare in a blizzard."
Indeed, Klobuchar did announce her campaign Sunday amid growing blizzard conditions. Blizzard warnings were in effect across south central Minnesota Sunday afternoon, and the senator announced her candidacy in Minneapolis.
Klobuchar made this a point of pride, telling CNN's Suzanne Malveaux, "What makes me unique is I did this announcement speech in the middle of a blizzard and I think we need people with grit — I have that grit." It seems she's proud to be a "snow woman."
Responding to Trump in a tweet, Klobuchar insisted that "science is on my side."
Science is on my side, @realDonaldTrump. Looking forward to debating you about climate change (and many other issues). And I wonder how your hair would fare in a blizzard? ☃️— Amy Klobuchar (@amyklobuchar) February 10, 2019

As Tim Ball and Thomas Harris wrote at PJ Media, "the recent weather is a stark reminder that a colder world is a much greater threat than a warmer one. While governments plan for warming, all the indications are that the world is cooling. And, contrary to the proclamations of climate activists, every single year more people die from the cold than from the heat."
Furthermore, it is far from "settled" that human activity is the main or even a primary source behind climate change. There are simply far too many factors in global climate for any absolute certainty on this issue, and the consistent failure of climate alarmist models should demonstrate just how vacuous the global warming narrative has become. In 1988, confident scientists predicted the sinking of the Maldives islands in 30 years. In 2018, the Maldives were still afloat, and actually expanding their landmasses.
Indeed, the stifling orthodoxy of climate alarmism has silenced key voices of dissent — weakening the scientific strength of the theory. When popularizers like Bill Nye brush off critiques with unscientific claims that human beings cause "one hundred percent" of climate change, it's time to rethink the underlying claims of the movement.
It is quite plausible that carbon emissions have some effect on the atmosphere, but it is far from clear exactly what that effect is. Even if the global warming theory were completely proven, desperate efforts like the Green New Deal — which Klobuchar foolishly endorsed — would do extremely little to stem the tide of climate change.
Furthermore, if Ball and Harris are correct and cooling is a far more disastrous threat to humanity than warming, perhaps any efforts to stop global warming may actually leave humanity worse off.
In any case, Trump's mocking tweet carries a great deal of truth to it. Amy Klobuchar will forever be the Democrat who warned about global warming as the snow piled up around her, and record cold temperatures froze her state and the rest of the midwest this winter. "Bad timing," indeed.
