by Daniel Greenfield: Before Obama decided to “abstain” from standing with Israel in a UN vote condemning the Jewish State, he had abstained from voting in defense of America in a UN resolution condemning the United States.

Obama, like Power and Kerry, have treated Israel just like they treated the United States.

John Forbes Kerry began his miserable career as a traitor seeking “peace” by pandering to the Communist leader negotiating on behalf of the Viet Cong. [Photo below on Right Side] He concludes his miserable career in the Senate and as Secretary of State by going to war in the name of “peace” against the only democracy in the Middle East on behalf of a totalitarian Islamic ideology and its terrorist bands of killers.

Half a century has passed. The Berlin Wall fell. So did the Soviet Union. But John Kerry remains the same.

A few months after he slimed his way into the Senate, Kerry flew to Nicaragua to meet with the ruling Communist thugs to try and sabotage aid to the resistance against their regime in the name of “peace”. The Sandinistas treated Kerry like a pathetic patsy, humiliating him by allying openly with the USSR right after their man in Washington D.C. had successfully pleaded their case to his colleagues.

Comandante was only the first of many dictators and terrorists to humiliate John Kerry. But Kerry has never resented any of his Communist or Islamist tormentors. You can set Kerry’s hair on fire and dunk his head in the toilet to put it out… and he will still come crawling back to take your side of things.

But there is one thing that Nantucket’s greatest windsurfer will not forgive or forget. Freedom.

For the worse part of five decades, Kerry has waged a vicious war against countries that have freedom on behalf of those that don’t. Nothing gets his goat like a civilized country, his own or any other, staving off a murderous band of thugs and terrorists. And no country has endured so well in that fight as Israel.

Kerry’s career as Secretary of State has been a miserable failure highlighted by stretches of spectacularly incomprehensible stupidities, from his Syria WMD non-offer to boycotting the solidarity march after the Charlie Hebdo massacre and then trying to compensate by flying in James Taylor to sing, “You’ve got a friend.” Less publicized though was his spectacular failure to negotiate “peace” between Israel and the Islamic terrorists of the Palestinian Authority who are still trying to destroy it.

The Ketchup Gigolo threw everything he had into making “peace”. Just like his effort to make peace with the Viet Cong and the Sandinistas, not to mention sundry other tyrants and terrorists, he went in assuming that the bad guys were the good guys and the good guys were the bad guys.

In the twisted mind under those Frankenstein hair plugs, peace is what happens when the bad guys win.

John Kerry didn’t try to implement the two-state solution that he keeps raving about by encouraging Israel and the Islamic terrorists to negotiate with each other. That would have been absurd. Instead he pretended to act as an intermediary between the two sides while actually representing only the PLO.

As one Israeli official said, “We discovered that throughout the entire period, the Americans didn’t actually talk to the Palestinians, only to us.” Why bother talking to the side that you’re already on?

But, just as it had in Nicaragua, that proved to be a serious mistake. While Kerry focused on pressuring Israel to make concessions, he, like Bill Clinton, hadn’t figured out how to get the Islamic terrorists to accept them.

Kerry brought his wonderful peace proposal to Mahmoud Abbas, a fine graduate of the USSR’s Peoples' Friendship University, along with Timochenko, the head of the Marxist FARC narcoterrorists. Kerry would, very predictably, meet with Timochenko earlier this year, despite his own State Department having a $5 million reward on his head, in yet another failed bid to force an ally to make peace with terrorists.

Excitedly, the traitor revisited the scene of his past treason, meeting with Abbas in Paris, to give him the good news. Kerry expected the terrorist leader to be overjoyed as the gift that he had brought over. Instead the terrorist turned up his nose. Kerry desperately passed the gift, of land, blood and security, extracted from Israelis, over to Obama to give to Abbas. Obama and Abbas met for two hours in the Oval Office. Abbas told Obama he might think it over and call. Like the bad date he was, he never did.

Kerry desperately wanted to be friends with the terrorists. But the terrorists didn’t want to play. “I have exhausted my time with John Kerry,” Abbas cried. "This is it."

Instead of negotiating any kind of peace, Kerry relayed blackmail threats from the terrorists. If Israel didn’t release large numbers of convicted terrorists with innocent blood on their hands, Abbas would go to the UN. Israel released most of the prisoners. Abbas went to the UN anyway. Kerry went to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and blamed Israel for the lack of peace.

Since then John Kerry has nursed a special hatred for the Jewish State.

When Muslim terrorists murdered Jews, John Kerry blamed Israel. When ISIS kills other Muslims, John Kerry also blamed Israel. And when John Kerry’s creme brulee donut is stale, he also blames the Jews.

And you can understand why.

John Forbes Kerry isn’t just a traitor. He’s a failed traitor. His treason has never amounted to anything except publicity stunts. The terrorists and tyrants used him, abused him and threw him away. For five decades, Kerry has been trying to defect, but no one, not the Viet Cong, the Sandinistas, Assad, FARC, Iran or the PLO would take him and keep him.

Israel was his last big bid to achieve something. And it failed. And like Carter, he blames the Jews.

Kerry and the rest of Obama Inc. have tried to cloak their campaign against Israel by claiming that they are only attacking the Jewish State because they are just so very devoted to peace.

The Hero of the Purple Band-Aid has denounced Jews living in Israel as the “obstacle to peace”. But the peace that Kerry and his boss are devoted is not the peace of coexistence, but of the triumph of evil. Instead of trying to mediate, Kerry, as always, took the side of the terrorists. He failed because it is the terrorists who refuse to make peace. It does not take a Solomon to understand this simple truth.

But it takes a radical leftist to persistently refuse to see it.

The greatest obstacle to peace is not Israel. It’s John Kerry. It’s all the other leftists like him who believe that peace comes when the terrorists win, not when they are defeated. There could have been peace long ago if Israel had been allowed to win. Instead the promised two-state solution peace has never materialized. And instead of admitting that they were wrong, the peacemakers blame Israel.

It’s either that or admit that the false promises of peace were only an excuse for destroying Israel.

The obstacle to peace does not come from Israel. It comes from its enemies. It comes from the PLO and Hamas, from Obama and from Kerry. Kerry and his ilk believe that peace is what happens when the bad guys win. But that’s their big lie. Peace is what happens when the terrorists and their allies lose.

Obama Picks Anti-Vietnam War Activist John Kerry To Run State Department

GINGPAC: Leftist President Barack Hussein Obama has just insulted every American soldier, sailor, airman, and Marine who ever served in Vietnam. He’s picked Massachusetts Senator John Kerry to head up the U.S. State Department when Hillary Clinton leaves that post in January.

John Kerry is a radical leftist who served little more than four months in Vietnam but came back to the U.S. and became a leader of Vietnam Veterans Against The War. Kerry testified before the Senate in 1971 and accused American combat veterans of being involved in a series of war crimes.

Kerry had close ties with anti-Vietnam War traitor Jane Fonda, who sat on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun emplacement and smiled as she pretended to be shooting down American planes. Kerry was also buddies with Ramsey Clark, Lyndon Johnson’s Attorney General. Clark has a long record of supporting anti-American causes – including our planned defeat in Vietnam – with the tragic loss of nearly 60,000 Americans.

Kerry’s actions were applauded by Vietnamese Communist leaders and were used by them to persecute our prisoners of war in Vietnam hellhole prisons. The word “treason” aptly describes Kerry’s actions against his fellow Vietnam veterans and his nation.

In 2004, he ran for president of the United States and a group of his former colleagues in Vietnam formed SwiftVets to expose Kerry’s actions in Vietnam and his far left ideology.

Has Kerry mellowed since then? Not really. During the Bush Administration, Kerry was one of the most loyal supporters of Syrian President Bashar Assad – the man Obama is now trying to eject from office. Kerry did whatever he could to block George Bush’s efforts to isolate the dictator.  Since Obama took office, Kerry has visited Assad five times!

Kerry’s wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, is also a far left activist, who inherited millions from her former husband John Heinz, a U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania. Teresa funds all sorts of left-wing, anti-life, pro-gay, pro-global warming, pro-open borders, and anti-American groups such as ACORN. She funds these groups through the Heinz Family Philanthropies.  Teresa Heinz Kerry is a female version of atheist billionaire George Soros.

Clearly, John Kerry is the perfect pick for Barack Obama to run the State Department. They both share the same loathing for America’s Judeo-Christian roots and our heritage of freedom based on the U.S. Constitution. They favor Big Government and despise the free enterprise system. They both want to cut America down by limiting its influence for good in the world.

In the recent presidential election, Americans voted for their own destruction. They’re going to get it with Obama and Kerry.

John Kerry Emitted 302 Tons of CO2 to Save the Planet . . .

. . . Sometimes you have to destroy the environment to save the environment.
by Daniel Greenfield: In his last year in office, Secretary of State John Kerry was touting the fact that he had traveled over 1.06 million miles and spent some 96 days in the air in the course of 3 years. The archived State Department site tallies Kerry's total record at 1,417,576 miles and 126 days in the air.

Kerry spent more time flying in 3 years than the average American would in 50 years.

When the Air Force Boeing 757 which ferried Kerry around the world broke down for the fourth time, the media and the foreign policy establishment treated it as some sort of accomplishment.

That might have amounted to something if the ketchup gigolo had done anything in that time except jet around the world to give speeches about the importance of not jetting around the world. Kerry kept racking up miles by flying to Morocco to address the 22nd UN Climate Change Conference, to Indonesia to deliver a speech denouncing unbelievers in global warming, and to Paris to warn that the earth was about to be destroyed if people didn’t stop living like him.

Kerry’s flights would have powered all the appliances in 50 American homes for a year.

"It's the only choice for somebody like me who is traveling the world to win this battle," Kerry recently retorted when a reporter asked him about flying his private jet to Iceland to receive an environmental award. Environmentalists don’t fly coach or even first class. They jet set.

But sometimes you have to destroy the environment to save the environment.

Former Secretary of State John Kerry racked up 302 tons worth of CO2 emissions just from his flight time. Americans would have to burn 100 tons of coal to match the CO2 emissions from Kerry’s jaunts to save the world from people wanting to fly on vacation or heat their homes.

And as Biden’s new ‘Climate Envoy’, Kerry will soon be filling the sky with even more hot air.

Everyone from Moscow to the Middle East knew that Kerry was full of hot air, but not even they would have guessed that John Forbes Kerry was full of 302 tons of hot air. Don’t just think of Kerry as a politician, but as the Exxon Valdez with a “Save the Whales” sticker on the hull.

Biden’s ‘Climate Envoy’ recently argued that coal, oil, and gas workers needed to make better choices and make solar panels. In 2004, Kerry had won the endorsement of the United Mine Workers of America by promising to protect coal jobs. The UMWA didn’t even bother trying to endorse Biden, just as it didn’t try endorsing Obama or Hillary in 2012 and 2016.

The Democrats are militantly anti-coal now. Hillary Clinton had vowed to destroy coal and Kerry thinks coal miners ought to move to China and get jobs constructing toxic solar panels there.

But while the Democrats may be anti-coal, they’re pro-mansion and pro-private jet.

After the Obama regime ended, Kerry went back to using his own private jet to flit around the world, give speeches, and accept awards. Iceland was just one stop on the Kerry world tour.

And then it was back to one of his portfolio of mansions.

“Local sea levels are rising twice as fast as the global average,” Kerry claimed in 2015. Two years later, he and his wife bought a seven-bedroom waterfront house in Martha’s Vineyard.

Much like jetting everywhere, that’s just the sort of island property that a man who sincerely believes that global warming is causing the oceans to rise and flood the world would buy.

Kerry’s homes, like the jet set lifestyle, clash with his apocalyptic environmentalism.

"I don’t see it as all tragedy at all. I mean, yes, there will be tragedy associated with it. It’ll be hard for some people to give up homesteads and move away," Kerry, speaking as Biden's new "Climate Envoy", argued. "So yes, life will be different, but it doesn’t have to be worse."

Not when you can afford to pay for the carbon offsets the way that Kerry does.

It’s not easy being ‘green’. But you don’t have to be green, as Kerry told a reporter in Iceland, "if you offset your carbon, it's the only choice for somebody like me.”

Paying someone else to be ‘green’, which is what carbon offsets amount to, is the modern equivalent of the Civil War practice of allowing the wealthy who were drafted to pay poor people to fight in their place. Life won’t be all that different for John Kerry, aside from giving up an estate on Nantucket for one on Martha’s Vineyard, because he’ll pay the poor to be green.

Trading coal for solar raises energy prices. Attaching carbon taxes to everything will make the cost of living impossible for millions. Air travel will become a thing of the past. For most.

“What I'm doing, almost full time," Kerry whined in Iceland, "is working to win the battle on climate change, and in the end, if I offset and contribute my life to do this, I'm not going to be put on the defensive." And it’s not as if any reporter outside Iceland would dare to even try.

John Forbes Kerry is flying around the world like Superman, fueled by hot air and carbon offsets, to save the world from the rest of us who irresponsibly drive to work and run our air conditioners without caring about the environment. While John Kerry goes through enough CO2 to cover 60 Americans driving their cars for a year because he cares about the environment.

All these years after Vietnam, Lt. Kerry, who collaborated with the Viet Cong to stop a war and launch a political career, is still destroying things to save them. And if these things, whether it’s the people of Vietnam or the planet, never get saved, he still gets rich and famous.

Meanwhile he emits enough CO2 to account for 100 tons of coal while fighting coal with jets.

When John Kerry first got the State Department gig under Obama, he divested a number of resources including millions worth of the Sustainable Technologies Fund which the media described only as a “green energy-oriented private equity firm” while leaving out a key detail.

Leaving out key details when it comes to the dealings of Democrats is the new journalism.

The Sustainable Technologies Fund was co-founded by Andre Heinz: Kerry’s stepson.

“The emergence of new policies and laws aimed at aligning our economic system of production with our environment’s carrying capacity,” STF’s site tells potential investors. “Understanding and predicting the desired goals of such policies is key to an optimal market strategy.”

No doubt.

The conflict of interest here didn’t go away with Kerry and his wife shedding their financial interest in Andre’s Swedish green energy fund. Much like jetting everywhere while lecturing the proles on setting their thermostat too high isn’t vaporized by carbon offsets.

“The time it takes me to get somewhere, I can't sail across the ocean. I have to fly, meet with people and get things done," Kerry argued. The rules never apply to the elites. They can’t. Not when those elites, like John Kerry, are saving us from ourselves by taking on the privileges that we are no longer allowed to exercise for ourselves in the name of the greater good of mankind.

And what sort of skeptic would begrudge the elites from jetting to save us from the jets?

Going ‘green’ is great when you’ve got private equity funds and private jets. It’s a lot less fun when you’re a British pensioner freezing to death in the winter or a French senior citizen dying of heatstroke due to the lack of air conditioning. Greenness means factory workers making $20K a year paying for the Teslas of upper class Californians. It’s oil and gas workers losing their jobs at the behest of environmental consultants pushing Chinese solar panels.

And it’s John Kerry flying a private jet to accept another award ten thousand miles away while emitting enough CO2 to heat an American home. If Biden still lets Americans heat their homes.

Did John Kerry Advise Palestinian Leader Abbas To Wait Out Trump?

by Patrick Goodenough: Former Secretary of State John Kerry is under fire for allegedly urging Palestinian leaders to hold firm against President Trump’s demands because he won’t be in office for long.

But former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Thursday he doubted Kerry would have given such “anti-American” and “stunningly unpatriotic” advice to the Palestinians.

Kerry has not responded publicly to claims, first reported by the Israeli daily Ma’ariv, that he made the comments during a recent meeting in London with Hussein Agha, a longstanding confidante of Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas. Agha reportedly briefed P.A. officials in Ramallah afterwards on the wide-ranging conversation.

According to the report Kerry told his interlocutor to advise Abbas to “hold on and be strong” and not to yield to Trump’s demands, suggesting the president may not be in White House for much longer.

Kerry also reportedly told Agha that if Trump does last a full first term, he may mount another White House run in 2020. Kerry was the Democratic Party’s nominee in the 2004 presidential election, when he lost to President George W. Bush.

The former secretary of state was quoted as advising that Abbas present a “positive” peace initiative of his own, for which Kerry would work to garner support.

And he allegedly counseled Abbas, via Agha, to direct his criticism not at the U.S. or the administration, but at Trump personally, on the grounds that the president was solely responsible for the current situation.

Trump angered the Palestinians and their supporters last month by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and signaling plans to move the U.S. Embassy to the city. In a recent speech, Abbas attacked Trump, employing an Arabic curse translated as “may his house be razed.”

Agha, a Lebanese academic and author, is a senior associate of Oxford University’s St. Antony’s College who was deeply involved in previous behind-the-scenes Israeli-Palestinian peace initiatives. Attempts to reach him for comment on the reported conversation with Kerry were unsuccessful.

Reacting to the reports, the Republican Jewish Coalition called Kerry’s alleged actions “reckless.”

“John Kerry failed for four years as secretary of state to achieve Israeli-Palestinian peace. Now he wants a second bite of the apple, a bite the American people chose not to give him when they rejected the Obama/Kerry foreign policy in 2016,” said RJC executive director Matt Brooks.

“John Kerry is no longer a representative of the American people and his action – conducting a shadow foreign policy – is reckless and undermines the possibility of achieving peace,” he said. “The American people chose President Trump, in part, because he promised to pivot away from the failed policies of John Kerry."

Former House Speaker Gingrich said Thursday he doubted Kerry would have made the comments attributed to him.

“That would surprise me. Kerry knows, as former secretary of state, former U.S. senator, that that kind of advice would be stunningly unpatriotic,” Gingrich told the “Fox and Friends” program. “And I don’t think that John Kerry would do something like that. I hope he wouldn’t.”

He added that he would be “very, very surprised” if Kerry had “said anything that was that overtly anti-American.”

As for the possibility of a Kerry 2020 run, Gingrich also said he’d be “perfectly happy” about that. “The more Democrats who decide that they’ll run for president the better off we’re going to be in 2020. I think Trump will beat any of them so it doesn’t concern me very much.”

‘Messianic fervor’
During his four-year tenure at the helm of the State Department Kerry worked energetically to advance Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

Months after becoming secretary of state in early 2013, Kerry met with Arab government ministers in Jordan, and was told that the Israeli-Palestinian dispute was the “core” reason for regional instability.

Despite the raging Syrian civil war, spreading jihadist violence in Iraq and a military takeover in Egypt following months of violent protests against a Muslim Brotherhood president, Kerry did not publicly challenge the claim.

Instead, he told reporters after the meeting that many ministers had told him “that the core issue of instability in this region and in many other parts of the world is the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.”

Shortly thereafter Kerry launched a concerted effort to kick start talks between Israel and the P.A., but after nine months the initiative collapsed in April 2014.

Israel’s then-defense minister was reprimanded by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for saying that Kerry was driven by “messianic fervor” in his efforts to promote peace talks – a view likely shared by others in the Israeli establishment.

In the closing weeks of Obama’s term, Kerry defended the administration’s decision not to veto a controversial U.N. Security Council resolution which described areas disputed between Israelis and Palestinians – including eastern Jerusalem, home to Judaism’s most sacred site – as “occupied Palestinian territory.”

Kerry said the administration’s main objective in allowing the measure to pass was “to preserve the possibility of the two-state solution, which every U.S. administration for decades has agreed is the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.”

In fact the two-state solution was not U.S. policy for “decades.” The first U.S. president to publicly declare support for an independent Palestinian state was George W. Bush, in a 2002 speech that reversed more than four decades of American policy.

Question John Kerry Long and Hard!

Ken Blackwell and Bob Morrison, Contributing Authors: Sen. John Kerry has a long and dubious record in foreign policy.

In the 1971's, he testified against his fellow Vietnam War veterans before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He charged that they were violating the Geneva Conventions every day in Vietnam. Some POWs were outraged at Kerry's disloyal statements. They said they had been tortured by their Communist captors trying to force them to make such untrue statements.

Worse, Kerry went to Paris in 1970. There, he met with North Vietnamese Communists. We need to see all his notes from those meetings. Any negotiation between a private U.S. citizen and a foreign power is illegal. It violates the Logan Act of 1798. Did Kerry demand of the North Vietnamese Communists that they abide by the Geneva Convention? Or is that only a demand he made of his fellow Americans?

We do not charge Kerry with treason in the statements and actions he engaged in then.  Treason consists of giving aid and comfort to the enemies of the United States. But this country has set a very high bar for conviction for treason--ever since the Burr Treason Trial of 1807. Nonetheless, we do say Kerry's actions and statements then were not those to which America's top diplomat should be linked. What was he thinking?

In the 1980s, Kerry campaigned for the Nuclear Freeze. The Soviet KGB, we now know, was a major funder and promoter of this disastrous idea. The Freezeniks believed that President Carter's promise to send Pershing and Cruise missiles to our NATO allies in Western Europe should be dishonored.

Freezeniks thought that the only thing we should do in response to aggressive Soviet placement of SS-19 and SS-20 Intermediate Range Ballistic Missiles (IRBMs) in Eastern Europe was to freeze the West into no response. By freezing in terror, we could morally pressure the Soviets into withdrawing their missiles, the naive Freezeniks argued. Harvard's Polish-born Adam Ulam famously punctured this pink balloon: "An' wot will you doo iff they dun't?"

Ulam's common sense response was followed by President Ronald Reagan. Reagan agreed with the democratically elected Socialist President of France, Francois Mitterrand, that NATO would fall apart if we failed to meet this Soviet thrust. The Cruise and Pershing Missiles went forward. And, in good time, Reagan and Mitterand's policy of peace through strength brought the greatest arms reduction treaty in history and it helped bring down the Iron Curtain.

Has John Kerry learned anything from that experience? We need to know.

Then, there is his appalling joke when President George H.W. Bush was elected. He said the Secret Service has instructions, if anything happens to President Bush--"to shoot Dan Quayle."

He got a lot of yuks from the media on that one.

Question 1: Does Sen. Kerry think assassination of the President and Vice President is funny?
Question 2: If John Q. or Jane Q Public makes a joke about murder of the President and Vice President, they get a visit from the Secret Service; why does a United States Senator like Kerry get away with it?

For these and a host of other reasons, John Kerry should be grilled with tough questions. He has been wrong about every major foreign policy issue since 1972. Aren't his failures over four decades something his colleagues should worry about?

by Fred Lucas: Former Secretary of State John Kerry’s secret negotiations to try to preserve the Iran nuclear deal went well beyond what most past secretaries of state have done, a veteran expert on the Middle East says.

“Many former secretaries of state remain actively engaged in foreign affairs,” Jim Phillips, a senior research fellow at The Heritage Foundation, told The Daily Signal. “To my knowledge, one has never undermined a succeeding administration to this degree, especially with such a long-term adversary as Iran.”

President Donald Trump announced in May that the United States was withdrawing from the Iran deal, which also included Britain, France, Germany, China, and Russia. Kerry oversaw the Obama administration’s negotiations of an agreement to slow Iran’s efforts to build nuclear weapons.

Kerry, a former U.S. senator from Massachusetts who was the Democrats’ presidential nominee in 2004, said Wednesday on commentator Hugh Hewitt’s radio show that he met with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif “three or four times” about salvaging the agreement.

“I told him, ‘Look, you guys need to recognize that the world does not appreciate what’s happening with missiles, what’s happening with Hezbollah, what’s happening with Yemen. You’re supporting, you know, an ongoing struggle there,’” Kerry said.

“They say they’re prepared to negotiate and to resolve these issues,” he told Hewitt. “But the [Trump] administration has taken a very different tack.”

Kerry later told Fox News Channel’s Dana Perino that he met with Zarif two or three times.

Kerry may have assisted Iran with one goal, Phillips said.

“Iran wanted to drive a wedge between the United States and European allies,” Phillips, who specializes in Middle Eastern affairs, said. “This undermines the Trump administration without producing any benefits for the United States.”

Some critics allege that Kerry, who has no official U.S. government authority, violated the Logan Act of 1779, which states:
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.Phillips noted that no one has been prosecuted under the Logan Act, so it would be a difficult case to make.

“We’re not going to comment,” said a White House National Security Council spokesman. “That a former secretary of state tried to interfere with current policy says everything.”

Some political observers say Kerry is considering challenging Trump in the 2020 presidential election.

In his interview Wednesday with Hewitt, Kerry confirmed previous reports that he met with Iranian officials. Those reports prompted Trump in May to charge Kerry of conducting “shadow diplomacy.”

The WaPo Kerry Endorsement: Curious and Curiouser

Ken Blackwell and Bob Morrison, Contributing Authors: The editorial staff of the Washington Post, surely meant well. They wanted readers to think that Sen. John Kerry’s vast experience in foreign policy over four decades equips him to serve as Secretary of State in the second Obama administration.

The editorial, titled “John Kerry: Well-suited to be Secretary of State,” gets that part right. The natty Mr. Kerry certainly looks the part of a globe-trotting senior U.S. diplomat.

As to his qualifications for that role, we’re reminded of Frederick the Great’s response when he was urged to make a less than stellar general a field marshal. Reminded the only occasionally victorious general had been in every battle for years, Frederick pointed to his mount: “So has my mule. Must I make him a field marshal, too?”

The Post editorial lists offer a tour d’horizon of world hot spots and suggests Kerry has already been helpful in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Egypt and Sudan.

Can anyone point to  improvements in U.S. policy toward any of those benighted lands under this administration? Do we really need Kerry’s help to persuade Hamid Karzai  take more U.S. gold to hold more dubious elections?

The millions of Christian refugees who have fled Sudan will find cold comfort in the thought that John Kerry has helped smooth their flight.

Pakistan? Only two percent of Pakistani citizens pay taxes, NPR tells us, but now Americans will face tax hikes in part so we can continue lavishing money on a country that hates us.

The Post editorial helpfully reminds us that Kerry was “convinced by” Syria’s cynical Bashir al-Assad that the Damascus butcher was actually a reformer. And this is evidence of his fitness for office?

Perhaps the most curious part of the Post endorsement of Kerry is the notion that defeated presidential candidates have something special to offer as Secretary of State. Nice thought, if it doesn’t collide with the test of history.

Consider William Seward, Lincoln’s defeated rival and hand-picked Sec. of State. Seward gave Lincoln shrewd advice on the Emancipation Proclamation, to be sure, and on shepherding the Thirteenth Amendment that abolished slavery through a lame-duck Congress (as the movie Lincoln memorably records).

But Seward’s foreign policy ideas were positively dangerous. In the midst of Civil War, he welcomed a war with Great Britain. That could have proven fatal for the embattled Union. Lincoln wisely leashed the wily New Yorker, saying: “One war at a time, Seward.”

Another presidential loser, William Jennings Bryan, was Democrat Woodrow Wilson’s disastrous choice for Sec. of State. Pacifist Bryan busied himself concluding binding arbitration treaties with scores of foreign states — like Uruguay and Switzerland.

When Germany sank the Lusitania in 1915, killing thousands of civilians, Bryan quit in a huff. Despite the deaths of hundreds of Americans, including infants, Bryan thought Wilson’s stiff note—typed on his own typewriter--was too “one-sided” against the Germans. It seems Bryan thought the doomed Lusitania had put herself right in the path of those German torpedoes.

Republican Charles Evans Hughes lost to President Wilson by a whisker in 1916. Former President Theodore Roosevelt, frustrated with Hughes, who hailed from T.R.’s native New York. He dismissed the wishy-washy Hughes as “Wilson with whiskers.”

A poor campaigner, Hughes was even worse as Warren Harding’s Sec. of State. Hughes pursued naval disarmament after World War I. That antagonized Japan. And stripped U.S. defenses in the Pacific. Thousands of the nearly 80,000 U.S. and Filipino troops taken prisoner died on the infamous Bataan Death March of 1942. The crosses over their makeshift graves bear mute testimony to unwise foreign policies heedlessly pursued.

Speaking of New Yorkers who failed to catch the presidential gold ring, we come to former senator, now Sec. of State, Hillary Clinton. We sincerely hope Madame Secretary recovers from her concussion soon. But while her widely anticipated congressional testimony on the Benghazi debacle will grab headlines, the totality of her tenure should not be passed over.

She badgered Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper,most diplomatically in public, in Ottawa for not pushing abortion in pro-life East African nations. She helped Vice President Biden force abortion into the new Kenya constitution, threatening these African Christians with a cutoff of U.S. aid. This, from a Secretary of State who once admitted abortion is "wrong."[Newsweek, Oct. 31, 1994]

While claiming to champion women worldwide, Hillary Clinton has been mum about the global war on unborn baby girls. Estimates range in the hundreds of millions of unborn children killed because they were female.

But, we digress!

Given the record of defeated presidential candidates trying to make a comeback as Secretary of State, the Post’s endorsement becomes curious and curiouser. Senators should press Sen. Kerry hard before taking the Post’s advice on this nomination.

Opposing Susan Rice Sexist? What About Opposing John Kerry?

By Ken Blackwell and Bob Morrison, Contributing Authors: Liberal Washington Post editorial page commentator Ruth Marcus sees sexism in the Republican opposition to naming the current U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, as Hillary Clinton’s replacement as Secretary of State. Marcus trots out a well-worn story from the 1970s. She relates the formidable Alice Rivlin’s recollections as first Director of the Congressional Budget Office. “Over my dead body will we have a woman in that job” was the reaction of the House Budget Committee Chairman. (Chairman, Ooh! Bad!) That was Dr. Rivlin’s testimony. Dr. Rivlin sailed through confirmation to chair the CBO and is widely respected on both sides of the aisle.

We’re not sure if that powerful male congressional malefactor is still on this side of the sod, but just look at what writer Marcus overlooks: That committee chairman in 1974 could only have been a Democrat. For forty years, no one but a Democrat chaired any House committee.

Conveniently overlooked by Ruth Marcus as well in this latest attempt to gin up a phony war on women is the fact—one of those stubborn facts—that the first woman to be confirmed as Secretary of State was Madeleine Albright. Sec. Albright sailed through in 1996 on a vote of 99-0 in a Senate controlled by Republicans.

Ambassador Rice was herself confirmed by a unanimous Senate vote for her current position at the UN. That vote included, dare we mention it, Republicans. Some of them, we hear, were white males.

The reason for the increasing opposition to Amb. Rice as Sec. of State is her failure to present the truth about the Benghazi debacle. This is but part of a pattern with Amb. Rice. She headed up the Africa section of the U.S. State Department in 1998 when that “fudge factory” denied urgent requests from our U.S. diplomats in Tanzania and Kenya.

Amb. Rice told Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) that she would have to “refresh her memory” about the horrific al Qaeda bombings of our embassies in Tanzania and Kenya.
Greta Van Susteren has reported on the closed-door meeting between Amb. Rice and Sen. Collins that left the Maine lawmaker with more doubts about the ambassador’s record. Those bombings left scores dead and hundreds wounded.

Many of the victims in those embassy bombings were black females. The “Soft Power” so enthusiastically endorsed by the Obama administration provides a sympathy blanket for international conferences. But these confabs are always held in safe places, well guarded. For Americans and our friends on the ground, Soft Power can mean sudden death.

If Ambassador Rice fails to get the coveted slot at State, speculation turns to Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) Conservatives should also lead the opposition to the Massachusetts lawmaker. John Kerry gained fame testifying against his fellow Vietnam veterans before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee he now heads. Under oath, he claimed the U.S. forces in South Vietnam were violating the Geneva Convention in their treatment of the enemy.

That was in 1971. Young John Kerry also went to Paris to meet with North Vietnamese Communists for “talks.” What exactly was the nature of those talks? For a private citizen to negotiate with foreign powers has been a violation of federal law—the Logan Act—since 1798. Did Kerry negotiate? Did he demand that the North Vietnamese abide by the Geneva Convention? If not, why not? We know that our POWs were being subjected to daily torture in Hanoi. Kerry could turn to Sen. John McCain if he is in any doubt about that. Did Kerry keep written notes on his Paris meetings with our country’s enemies? If he did, let us see those notes. If he didn’t keep a record, is this the kind of Soft Power diplomacy he would bring to the State Department?

Lest you think we are stretching too far back in going after the mop-haired John Kerry’s youthful indiscretions, let’s talk about U.S. Senator John Kerry’s over-the-top advocacy of the Nuclear Freeze. He made that misguided effort on guided missiles his ticket to the Senate.

We now know that the Nuclear Freeze movement received major backing from the Soviet KGB. We know that it was the USSR’s best hope to split up NATO.

We know that the Nuclear Freeze was based on the absurd idea of how the United States should respond to aggressive Soviet moves in Eastern Europe, their placement of Intermediate Range Ballistic Missiles (IRBMs) within striking distance of every NATO capital. Kerry and his fellow Freezeniks thought we should do nothing. We should rally world opinion to force the Soviets to withdraw their IRBMs.

Harvard’s Adam Ulam, a Polish émigré, famously put down that silly notion. In his heavily-accented English, he asked: “And wot will you do iff they dun’t?” Kerry never had an answer.

We don’t question John Kerry's fitness for the job because he’s a white male. We don’t even think he’s “French-looking” as the Wall Street Journal’s estimable James Taranto continually says. In fact, French President Francois Mitterrand supported President Ronald Reagan’s placement of Cruise and Pershing Missiles in Western Europe. We approve that French leader’s brave stand against the Nuclear Freeze.

Our questions of Amb. Susan Rice and Sen. John Kerry concern their proven records of failure in foreign policy. Their Soft Power brings hard times and even death for Americans and our allies around the world. That should be our only concern.

Kerry's Kerfuffle | More Bad News For Barack

idiot his fellow vets recall from the Vietnam War."

 Gary Bauer, Contributing Author: As we reported yesterday, while Israelis were in the midst of somber observances for Holocaust Remembrance Day, news broke that Secretary of State John Kerry had said that Israel was at risk of becoming an "apartheid state" unless it acquiesced to the creation of a Palestinian state.

That was is an incredibly offensive comment given the historical background of the modern state of Israel. The modern Jewish state emerged in 1948 out of the ashes of the Holocaust -- the horrific consequences of Adolf Hitler's "apartheid state" in Nazi Germany.

For America's chief diplomat, whose every word is parsed for meaning, to suggest that the administration fears Israel is heading down the path of apartheid South Africa is beyond obscene.

If Kerry is so concerned about the creation of apartheid states in the Middle East, he should direct his comments to Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and Al Qaeda. A future Palestinian state is virtually guaranteed to be an "apartheid state," meaning "Jew free."

Leading pro-Israel groups from the right and left blasted Kerry. Abraham Foxman, director of the Anti-Defamation League, said Kerry's apartheid comment was "startling and deeply disappointing." The American Israel Public Affairs Committee said, "Any suggestion that Israel is, or is at risk of becoming, an apartheid state is offensive and inappropriate."

The Emergency Committee for Israel, led by my friend Bill Kristol, issued a statement saying in part, "It is no longer enough for the White House to clean up after the messes John Kerry has made. It is time for John Kerry to step down as Secretary of State, or for President Obama to fire him." On Capitol Hill the condemnation of Kerry's comment was immediate and bi-partisan. California Senator Barbara Boxer (D) called the remark "nonsensical and ridiculous." Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY) tweeted, "Inflammatory rhetoric comparing Israel's democracy to repugnant apartheid policy is irresponsible, inaccurate and counterproductive."

Alaska Senator Mark Begich (D) said, "…it's not productive to express his frustration in this way…" Referring to the recent "unity agreement" between Fatah and Hamas, Begich added, "Last time I checked, the U.S. didn't negotiate with terrorist organizations and we shouldn't expect the Israeli government to either."

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) said, "Reports that Secretary Kerry has suggested Israel is becoming an apartheid state are extremely disappointing. ... I hope that President Obama will … call on Secretary Kerry to apologize to the Israeli government and people."

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) demanded Kerry's resignation. In a speech on the Senate floor, Cruz said, "Secretary Kerry has thus proven himself unsuitable for his position and that before any further harm is done to our alliance with Israel, he should offer President Obama his resignation and the president should accept it."

From the State Department, Kerry issued a press release doubling down on a two-state solution and pushing back against his critics. Kerry said:"I will not allow my commitment to Israel to be questioned by anyone, particularly for partisan, political purposes… I have been around long enough to also know the power of words to create a misimpression, even when unintentional, and if I could rewind the tape, I would have chosen a different word…"Unfortunately, you cannot "rewind the tape," and this is not the first time that Kerry's remarks have undermined the U.S./Israeli alliance. Senator Cruz is right -- Kerry is unsuitable for his position and should step down before he does any more damage.

More Bad News For Barack
If John Kerry had not created enough indigestion at the Obama White House, today's ABC News/Washington Post poll will surely have them reaching for the Maalox. Here are some highlights of the results:

• Obama's approval rating has fallen five points in the past three months. Just 41% of registered voters approve of Obama's job performance, a record low for the ABC/Post poll, while 55% disapprove.
• In spite of claims about high enrollment, the American people are less than impressed with Obamacare -- 59% of registered voters disapprove of Obama's implementation of the so-called "Affordable Care Act," while only 36% of voters approve.

69% of voters feel the country is on the wrong track, while just 28% say it is on the right track. Democrats have tried to console themselves by arguing that Obama remains more popular than Congress. But, when asked whether it was better to have Democrats control Congress in order to support Obama's agenda or to have Republicans in control of Congress to check his agenda, voters preferred a GOP Congress by a whopping 14-point margin. By the way, these were the results from a poll that oversampled Democrat voters by nine points (32% Democrat, 23% Republican, 38% Independent). In 2012, Democrats had only a six-point advantage.

Nevertheless, we cannot afford to take anything for granted. Democrat committees are outraising their GOP counterparts. Left-wing special interest groups will stop at nothing to maintain their hold on power.

by Nicholas Ballasy: Former Secretary of State John Kerry, author of Every Day is Extra, predicted that “lives will be lost” due to President Trump’s position on climate change, calling his time in office a matter of “life and death.”

“This is why it’s the anecdote to what Bob Woodward lays out [in his new book Fear: Trump in the White House]. This book describes how we accept and fight, many times unsuccessfully, more times successfully, to make our democracy work and never had we needed to do that more than right now. We’re in trouble,” Kerry said about his memoir during a discussion at the Carnegie Center for International Peace on Monday evening.

“I don’t try to be a troublemonger or to be somebody who tries to scare people, but I’m telling you folks – and I write about this in the last chapter of the book – I mean, I wish I could find legal standing to bring a case against Donald Trump for the lives that will be lost and the property that will be damaged and the billions of dollars because of his decision on climate change. This is life and death. Our democracy matters that much,” he added.

Kerry also criticized Trump’s handling of relations with North Korea and Europe.

“What is happening is the sloppiness of the diplomacy that is going on with Kim Jong-un, the sloppiness of his reckless statements in Europe at a time when Europe is already weakened somewhat, and it matters to us more than ever since the end of World War II. I mean, these things matter, enormously, and we’ve got to fight for them,” he said.


Kerry recalled the “huge division” in the country when he stood up against former President Nixon during the Vietnam War.

“I was arrested for civil disobedience and demonstrating against the war, so it was divisive and I certainly earned some enemies for a lifetime through that experience. And we saw some of them come to the forefront in ’04, that’s what that was about,” Kerry said, referring to the “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth” ads that aired during his presidential run in 2004. “That wasn’t about my record. It was about them being angry I opposed the war and told the truth.”

Kerry cited Nixon “unleashing the FBI on people” and said the Trump presidency is more dangerous in “some ways” than the Nixon era.

“All you have to do is listen to the Nixon tapes to hear the bigotry and the hate that came out – despicable – and then, of course, there was pipe bombs blowing up in buildings,” he said. “People forget this, and people wondered about American institutions. Guess what? We not only made it through it, we got stronger.”

Kerry said America would “get through this period, which is certainly the most dangerous moment for our country since all of that and more dangerous, in some ways, because Henry Kissinger and Nixon were not, you know, they were smart in foreign policy – let’s be honest.”

Addressing Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, Kerry said Iran would never come to the table while Trump is in office.

“Not on your life or mine will they come to the table with this president. It’s impossible politically, physically, now, which underscores the fact that I think the administration is not looking for a renegotiation,” he said. “What they are looking for is regime change and you know, once again, first of all, the United States of America does not do regime change well. I would have hoped people might have learned that by now. The last evidence of that is Libya and our efforts elsewhere in the Middle East.”

Answering a question about the state of politics in the U.S. heading into midterm elections, Kerry said, “We’ve got a lot of pissed-off citizens and you cannot pretend to be involved in public life in this country if you don’t understand why people are pissed off. And they’re pissed off because none of the promises have been delivered on either side of the fence.”

Kerry attacked the way Republican lawmakers have handled Trump so far in his first term.

“Right now, today, while every one of those guys there on the Hill, they absolutely know how sick this situation is, how unbalanced, how unhinged it is, how dangerous it is but they are happier to ignore their oath of office to uphold the Constitution and save the institutions of America,” he said. “They’re happier protecting their power, their party and their president, and that’s a disgrace. So that’s where we find ourselves, and it’s all happened for extremely understandable, explainable reasons.”

When asked why he chose the title Every Day is Extra for his memoir, Kerry quipped, “Well, ‘every day is extra’ is what Donald Trump thought when Mueller was appointed. I just figured that out, actually.”
