Give Us Barabbas!

by Norm Allen (Out of the Norm Show* 4/6/07 - Good Friday): So here is the ruler of the nation standing in front of a very passionate crowd and giving them the chance to allow a perfectly innocent citizen go free after some political and religious friction, or to free a man who had been responsible for deaths of innocent people and is a known terrorist. The ruler could be swayed especially if the crowd polls one way or another.

In the mob, the media has begun its work to persuade the crowd to get rid of the traditionalist and give the terrorist some leniency, after all, he could be just a victim of radical extremist and he should be understood instead of punished. The innocent man says nothing, as there is nothing to defend. The media frenzies the rhetoric and makes accusations of character problems, even as far as blasphemy. The crowd gets louder and the officials are ready to give in as the roars of “Give us Barabbas” fills the air. It doesn’t look good for the one who is just and right.

Last November, in the face of disillusion, conservative voters didn’t turn out, and allowed the crowd to be swayed to elect people who do not represent the mainstream population. An avowed atheist was elected to Congress from Fremont, California who stated that he wanted to do away with the “myths of religion”, do away with marriage contracts all together, and eliminate the military. A Muslim was elected to Congress from Ohio who practices a religion that makes our form of government his enemy. Those extremists fit well with the liberal team lead by kill-babies- retreat at all costs-love a gay person-Nancy Pelosi. If I were a Democrat, I would be embarrassed by these representatives, but most of all, I am furious with my own conservative constituents who didn’t work or even show up. So Congress gets what is sent, and instead of choosing people of character, people who have proven their devotion to the betterment of the country instead of self-empowerment, and preserves and defends the God given rights of all, we are stuck with people who were selected by disgusted default.

Shame on us all for not being as strong as we talk. Shame on us, for being willing to criticize and not being willing to defend. Shame on us, for allowing the worst Congress in our history to be placed in power. Shame on us for letting the loud mindless people who are so wrapped up in their own egos and self-importance like Rosie O, Charles Schumer, Hillary Clinton, and John Edwards, let their cries be heard above the truth. Once again, we allow them to win; all they had to do was to cry “Give us Barabbas!”

And the innocent gets killed again.
