Tom Toncedo Announces for President for 2008 [Video]
Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo announced today that he would seek the Republican presidential nomination. Tancredo made his announcement on a conservative Des Moines-area radio show. Tancredo said he chose radio because talk radio had for years given him a platform for his stand against illegal immigration. He announced in Des Moines rather than Colorado because of the importance of Iowa in the nominating process.
Excerpt from his announcement:"While we fight around the world to defend our nation, we are entrenched now in a struggle here at home to define it. The crisis of illegal immigration threatens not only our economy and our security, but our very identity...The great tradition of American assimilation has broken down. The melting pot has cracked, and our Founding ideals are leaking through....For too long Americans have been force-fed candidates who ignore or mock their valid concerns about the security of our borders, the enforcement of our immigration laws, and the survival of our national heritage. That ends today."
When asked about other candidates with more money, Tancredo said he wasn't intimidated by other campaigns with more money and resources. "We have something they don't have - a group of people out there who are there because of an issue, and they're never going to have that. They can use their 100 million to try and buy constituency. I have it. It's natural. It's there."
