AR Democrat Gazette Editor Disputes Carter's Statement
KATV7: Little Rock - Former President Jimmy Carter says his critical comments of the current Bush administration in a recent interview with the Arkansas Democrat Gazette were "perhaps careless or misinterpreted." In the article, published Saturday, Carter said Bush's foreign policy is one of the worst in history. . . . Meanwhile, the former president Carter on Monday appeared to retract his comments, "I did comment on the fact the Iraqi war and lack of progress in the middle east caused me to put this administration below Richard Nixon. You didn't say worst in history? Not intentionally." However, Arkansas Democrat Gazette managing editor David Bailey responded in a statement, saying "we certainly didn't misinterpret the comments. Too bad Carter backed off from what he said, because it's true. Bush is the worst president in American History. I hope it turns out that he is the worse president possible. It would be deplorable if a worse-than-Bush president would ever be elected.
