Ask Congress to Consider these Facts before the Memorial Day Recess
Fact: Men and women of the armed forces placed in harm's way continue to do an outstanding, professional job!
Fact: In order to continue completing their military operations, they rely on financial resources provided by the Federal government.
Fact: War is serious business. It must not be used as a "political football" to produce sound bites, campaign rhetoric or fundraising letters.
Fact: Over 3 months ago, the Commander-in-Chief submitted to Congress an Emergency Defense Supplemental Appropriations for FY 2007 to fund the Global War on Terror through October 1, 2007.
Fact: The entire Congress fully supports providing more Defense spending than requested by the Commander-in-Chief, but a razor thin majority of Congress insists on establishing a date-certain for the complete withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq.
Fact: The Commander-in-Chief vetoed the initial funding package he received because of additional funding unrelated to the Global War on Terror and timelines that would pre-determine withdrawal of military personnel by August 2008.
Fact: Only YOU -- as a constituent and registered voter -- can make a difference.
Contact both your senators and your representative. Tell them the nation's service members need the Emergency Defense Supplemental Appropriations for FY 2007 without unrelated funding requests or any timelines for withdrawal of troops. Call the Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121 and ask for your senators and representative.
Fact: "Wait us out" is hardly a successful military strategy.
