RNC Statement on New Hampshire Democrat Presidential Debate
WASHINGTON D.C. - Republican National Committee Chairman Robert M. “Mike” Duncan released the following statement after Sunday's Democrat Presidential debate in New Hampshire: “We saw the remarkable spectacle of Democrat candidates for President who want to raise our taxes, but don’t want to fund our troops in Iraq – even though some of them said they would as recently as a month ago. This is not a platform that will win the Democrats many votes outside of Michael Moore fans, MoveOn.org members and Daily Kos readers. We will see something far more positive and far more encouraging when our Republican candidates gather for their third debate on Tuesday.” Tags:debate, Democrat, Mike Duncan, RNCTo share or post to your site, click on "Post Link". No. Democratic candidates did not say any such thing about not funding the troops. Tax increase are necessary to fund the services all Americans enjoy and pay for the strong defense we require. The funding debate is about the war, not the troops.
Perhaps an increase in taxes would have given the troops better body armor and better armored vehicles for their protection, things they still lack.
Who supports the troops with adequate funding? Not Republicans!!!
The bill was to provide supplemental funding for the troops. The Democrats may have wanted to make it a debate on the war BUT the issue was funding -- not taxes. And the Democrats did not have the will to "pull the plug on funding because the majority of of Americans would not have supported this action.
Obama and Clinton voted against the funding. Obama has always been against the war. He has never shown a willingness to make anyone pay for the tradjedy of 9-11. Clinton voted to support the war and supported action in Iraq from the beginning. There are lots of video tape to support her prior positions. Mrs. Clinton choose to wait until she knew the funding would be passed by enough votes and then cast her vote symbolically against the funding.
Your statment that Republicans do not support the troops with adequate funding is not correct.
If your issue is that we have incurred a deficit (borrowed money) -- that is true! But it has no relevance in funding.
