John McCain Speaks to Major Issues
ARRA Editor: We did not support Sen John McCain (R-AZ) position on immigration reform. However, we respect him and his position on other issues and wish to call your attention to two speeches he made in the last 24 hours in entirely two different settings but whose content ties together concerning the importance of confronting terrorism in the Middle-East.
Yesterday, Sen. McCain addressed the national convention of Christians United for Israel, being held in Washington, DC. During his speech, he expressed his unwavering commitment to Israel as the natural partner and ally of the United States and his belief that our relationship should only intensify in light of the dangers of terrorism and Islamic extremism. . . . Then early this morning (3:45 am) during the all-night Senate debate over an amendment to the Defense Department Appropriations bill, Senator McCain addressed on the Senate floor about the Levin-Reed amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act of FY 2008: "And to state the obvious, nothing we have done for the last twenty-four hours will have changed any facts on the ground in Iraq or made the outcome of the war any more or less important to the security of our country. The stakes in this war remain as high today as they were yesterday; the consequences of an American defeat are just as grave; the costs of success just as dear.
