Fred rips Huckabee
Hat tip to HotAir for this story by Bryan: we see that Fred Thompson answers his critics. Huckabee’s statement:
“Senator Thompson’s comments on ‘Meet the Press’ were disappointing and disheartening for those who were expecting him to be a solid voice for conservatives. The marriage and life amendments are critical issues for those of us who have been on the front lines of these cultural battles. Sen. Thompson’s philosophy seems to be more ‘cut and run’ when it comes to these issues, rather than stand and lead.
Fred’s response:
Bryan says sums up his post: Thompson manages to pound Huckabee into a fine powder without ever coming across as harsh or even particularly angry. It’s as solid an appearance as I’ve seen Thompson deliver since the official announcement that he’s running. Takeaway: Don’t mess with the Fred.As identified by StoptheACLU: Thompson makes a good point about the difference between him and most of the others. Thompson: “Thats where I was yesterday, thats where I am today and thats where I’ll be tomorrow.” Fred is consistent.Tags:Election 2008, Fred Thompson, Mike Huckabee, Politics, presidential candidates, videoTo share or post to your site, click on "Post Link". I wonder if he would say that the illegality of murder should be decided at the local level? Think about it: If life begins at conception and the taking of innocent life is murder, then essentially what Fraud Thompson is saying is that state and local governments get to decide if murder is illegal or not.
States have always decided issues and laws related to murder, rape, incest, etc. What you have now is a Federal case over-riding the potential decisions of citizens at the state level.
Fred Thompson has a 100% pro-life voting record. However, he is a Federalist and believes that the Federal government should not be dictating and that issues are best decided closest to the people.
I am not giving my opinion here for debate. But will address your anonymous comment. If you believe abortion is murder which you are logically stating; are you willing to execute a mother (possibly your family member or otherwise nice neighbor)who aborts her child or even the doctor (abortionist)? Are you willing to send her to prison and remove her from her family? What would "you" do as the form of punishment or corrective action with respect to the mother and abortionist? It is your turn to cast the first stone and not wait for others to do it!
Who do you believe is best at determining your punishment for the woman and or abortionist? Your state in which you have a say or the Federal government? If you say the State, you are a Federalist. If you say the Federal Government, you are a liberal surrendering your local decisions to a larger Federal government. This is what we are faced with today: a Federal court improperly deciding a case that should not have been done. This case should have remained the decision of the individual states.
We can agree that we both oppose abortion in all forms and are pro-life. The question is do you believe a law corrects the problem or do you believe that it takes a change societal decisions is what will make a difference. Before we can have a societal change, we need to have to be able to say what we believe about the sanctity of life and then we live our individual lives accordingly. Questions today are being asked of candidates not to inform the public but to cause the candidate to be cast down. Let's pray for our Nation and for repentance of sin which has plagued our society and caused us to be even in this position of addressing the deplorable issue of abortion.
Of course, we could live under a Theocracy as in the times of Moses and stoning would be your solution.
