Fred Thompson’s Federalism on Social Issues

Hat tip to StoptheACLU for this summary: Hillary Clinton should take notes from Mr. Fred Thompson here on how to answer tough questions. One admirable trait of Fred’s is that he has never pretended to be on both sides of any issue during this election. He has always claimed a federalist view on social issues, and he’s been consistent. I am one of the most social conservative bloggers around, and I agree that most of the solution is with the people. I agree that these decisions should be made by the families and the State representing the views of its majority. Most likely, the only way abortion will ever diminish is if Roe Vs. Wade is overturned. Fred Thompson agrees that this Supreme Court decision was a bad one. It was this decision that put the issue of abortion in the Federal government hands in the first place. Liberals should remember this the next time they complain that the Federal government is trying to “trample on women’s rights’”. Whether its abortion or homosexual marraige it is best left at the State levels.

According to the ARRA website: "Sanctity of Life: We believe that the pre-born child is a human being deserving the full protection of the law; that the pre-born child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. That sacred right extends to all persons regardless of age or infirmity and also does not allow for euthanasia, assisted suicide, or public funding for any of these practices."

In Fred Thompson's America, some states will allow abortion and others won't.

Why does the ARRA support a candidate who does not share their beliefs or the "Sanctity of life" plank in the RNC platform?

Good Question. Let's begin with the fact that Fred Thompson has a 100% pro-life voting record. However, he is also a federalist and believes that the Federal government should not be dictating and that issues are best decided closest to the people.

I am not giving my opinion here for debate. But will address your anonymous comment. If you believe abortion is murder which you are logically stating; are you willing to execute a mother (possibly your family member or otherwise nice neighbor)who aborts her child or even the doctor (abortionist)? Are you willing to send her to prison and remove her from her family? What would "you" do as the form of punishment or corrective action with respect to the mother and abortionist? It is your turn to cast the first stone and not wait for others to do it!

Who do you believe is best at determining your punishment for the woman and or abortionist? Your state in which you have a say or the Federal government? If you say the State, you are a Federalist. If you say the Federal Government, you are a liberal surrendering your local decisions to a larger Federal government. This is what we are faced with today: a Federal court improperly deciding a case that should not have been done. This case should have remained the decision of the individual states.

We can agree that we both oppose abortion in all forms and are pro-life. The question is do you believe a law corrects the problem or do you believe that it takes a change societal decisions is what will make a difference. Before we can have a societal change, we need to have to be able to say what we believe about the sanctity of life and then we live our individual lives accordingly. Questions today are being asked of candidates not to inform the public but to cause the candidate to be cast down.
Let's pray for our Nation and for repentance of sin which has plagued our society and caused us to be even in this position of addressing the deplorable issue of abortion.

Of course, we could live under a Theocracy as in the times of Moses and stoning would be your solution.
