Today in History: Republicans outlawed the KKK
Hat Tip to Rick Hondo, The Rick Hondo and Dr. Katie Show: For decades after the Civil War, the Ku Klux Klan was the terrorist wing of the Democratic Party. Klansmen murdered hundreds of Republican activists and office-holders including U.S. Representative James Hinds (R-Arkansas).
On this day in 1871, the Republican-controlled 42nd Congress passed and the Republican President, Ulysses Grant, signed into law the Ku Klux Klan Act. The law banned the KKK and other Democrat terrorist organizations. President Grant then deployed federal troops to crush a Klan uprising in South Carolina.
Eleven years later, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned most provisions of the Act. Though legalized, this original version of the Ku Klux Klan faded. Why? Because as Democrats regained control over southern state governments, they could oppress African-Americans openly without need of white sheets.

Thank you,
Michael Zak

I received the above comment post along with another email at the same time from Mr. Michael Zak, grand_old_partisan@hotmail.com, quoting: "You are receiving this email about the Republican Party because of your interest in the GOP heritage of the civil rights achievement . . ."
By posting the previous comment, Mr. Zak has already accomplished his intent which we neither support or agree with as we have no basis upon which to agree or disagree. Zak has set forth in his comment 1) that he claims to have been plagiarized by Mr. Hondo and 2) identifies the source he claims for the information. However, he did not provide specific link on his blog to substantiate his claim.
Zak's claim of plagiarism is his claim alone and not the supported or substantiated by me or this site. Mr. Zak should take up his position directly with Mr. Rick Hondo and read our website posting policy at the bottom of each of our pages). Also, should Mr. Zak's alleged claim of plagiarism be taken as a threat by Mr. Rick Hondo?
In prior email to me, Zak previously displayed an arrogance in essence that historical facts and historical photos that appear in his book means that these facts and photos are now exclusively owned by him and that he can alleged anyone addressing or sharing about these same historical situations is committing plagiarism. Even when "quotes" are attributed to him or his book he has opinioned that they plagiarism occured. Obviously, even though our site is a Republican oriented site, we have found it better to no longer quote his work, his blog, or recommend him to avoid the hassle.
Does anyone else wonder if a Federal District Court would agree with him or even hear his case? If they did hear the case, I would like to see the documents presented in court that gave Zak the exclusive rights to report on the historical figures in his book (with an exclusion to all others writers in the future) and the subsequent ownership of historical facts, Also, what documents gave Zak ownership or an exclusive rights to the use of historical photos.
Mr. Zak would have be better served if he had embraced those willing to promote history, the GOP, himself and his "narrative." But, maybe Zak's message is sales of this one book or the promotion of himself and not the message of the narrative about the "GOP heritage of the civil rights achievement."
Although this site has a link to the Grand Old Partisan without requiring a return link from his blog as he does for other blogs, it is because of the GOP historical content of Zak's book and his worthy presentation within the book. However, this is not endorsement of Mr. Zak's subsequent comments, actions or his presentations.
I can't speak to your correspondence with Mr. Zak, but this post appears at 2:12 am, 4/20/08, on Grand Old Partisan.
