MO Gov. Blunt Implements Pro-Life Programs
In Missouri, Gov. Matt Blunt's (R) leads in implementing a new program that promotes abortion alternatives with a revolutionary new toll-free hotline: 1-800-AID-U-171. An expectant mom is instantly with a menu of services, including medical care, housing, child care, substance abuse treatment, job training, parenting classes, and education options. The assistance is available to women with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level and the services are provided at more than 35 locations across the state. Help from the state also includes prenatal care, infant care and adoption support.
"I believe we have an obligation to support expectant mothers and protect the sanctity and dignity of human life," Blunt said. Last year, after the legislature approved the new program, Gov. Blunt signed legislation placing Missouri’s Alternatives to Abortion Program in statute to help ensure ongoing support to organizations that help meet the needs of pregnant women and new mothers. This program is a model for other states that want to support women with easy and confidential alternatives to abortion.
