Reasons for Mike Huckabee for Vice President
After reading Nuckols' comments, what do you think? Please add your comments to this post.
At the Daily News Record, P. Hudson Nuckols Jr., Shenandoah Va details his reasons "Why I like Mike Huckabee for vice president and why we need him":
Sixteen million to 18 million Southern Baptists can be counted on! Fifty-plus million evangelicals share his values, as do many millions of Democrats.
Mike has that rare ability to communicate with the common man. "Blue collar" people can identify with him.
The Southern vote! He succeeded in Arkansas where Clinton failed.
Black Baptists (there are millions of them) and others: shared values!
The Reagan Appeal!
A man of faith and prayer that inspires confidence. "This Book ... thou shalt meditate there in day and night ... observe to do all that is written therein for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success" (Joshua 1:18).
A foot soldier on domestic issues, freeing President McCain to focus the attention needed on defense and other crises.
Personality! Mike has it! Who better to reach across the Congressional aisle to reluctant Democrats? And, Republicans!
Mike Huckabee already has name recognition and the respect of many, many people . . . [Source]

I asked the same question over at McCain Now and given the 500+ hits and 40+ comments, I would say that a lot of people seem to think a McCain Huckabee ticket makes sense.
I agree 100% with this article and add that McCain/Huckabee have the same ideology, they were the two men who ran the most respectable, issue focused race, have a genuine respect and admiration for one another and the "chemistry" between them had body language experts giving them 97.7,( very rare and a full 34pts. higher than McCain with any of the other possible vps he has been seen with.) It is obvious McCain feels he can TRUST Huckabee. Mike Huckabee has always spoken only very highly of Senator McCain and he would never have to take anything back that was said during the campaign. As a matter of fact, McCain has a clip on youtube he used as an endorsement from Mike during the campaign where he took clips of compliments Huckabee paid him. As far as exciting the base of the party, there is NO ONE who can do that better than Huckabee. He is the "darling" of the social conservaitves, evangelicals and black republicans and courted the blue collar/middle class from day one. (the media said Hillary got her political voice in March. It was Mike Huckabee's voice she "borrowed" and she took up with blue collar voters where he left off... in March) Mike has the oratoral skills to top Obama when it comes to inspiring with substance. McCain/Huckabee have that substance and they fit like the left and right hand of a glove that, together make a perfect pair!
Huckabee Would Help Mobilize Conservatives to the Republican Banner 2008 Republican Primary exit polling data showed that a large portion of Huckabee's support came from voters who identified themselves as "Very or Somewhat Conservative".
Huckabee would bring his scrappy grassroots network of supporters along with grassroots communities like HucksArmy.com to the fall fight to turn out the vote. Long after Huckabee dropped out of the race, he continued to garner support of around 10-12% in states like PA, NC, IN, and WV showing a very committed following that was willing to come out and vote even when the result of the vote what not in doubt. These committed people will be the same ones actively campaigning and getting their friends to vote for a McCain/Huckabee ticket.
Polling data from SurveyUSA shows that McCain/Huckabee receives more support from conservatives than when McCain is paired with Romney, Pawlenty, or Lieberman.
Huckabee Connects with Critical Blue-collar Swing Voters His up-from-the-bottom personal story (first member of his family ever to graduate high school, let alone college) and successful struggle against obesity helps destroy the idea of the GOP as a party of country club elites.
Huckabee Communicates Well Through TV & Retail Politics Huckabee has the ability to connect with voters on a personal level. And John could do with a little surrogate help at the podium and on screen as those are not his strong suits.
Best of all they like and trust one another. More than BO could say if Hillary forces her way onto that ticket!!
I would welcome and support a McCain/Huckabee ticket for the following reasons:
Huckabee has always treated McCain with respect. He continued to believe in him even when the lobbiest story broke.
SurveyUSA has Huckabee polling as best VP in numerous states.
Both McCain and Huckabee have similar policies: tax reform, no new taxes, no amnesty, build the fence, victory in Iraq, Pro-life.
Huckabee would help win Africian American voters, blue collar workers, and religous groups that normally go to dems. Would also help win the South.
If Huckabee is chosen as VP, there is a very large and established army that will respond immediately to support this ticket financially and in other grassroot efforts.
Two words--Common Sense! I am neither a Baptist or a conservative. I am one of McCain's vaunted independents, and as such I looked at each candidate's positions and settled on Mike Huckabee. I am about as far from a values voter as you can get being a Atheist, but Mike had the best plan for domestic issues going. He sold me on the FairTax and the health crisis. Most importantly, he actually read my letter asking if he could accept an Atheist supporter and his answer did not detract one whit from his belief while accepting mine as also valid.
Mike Huckabee connects on a personal level no other candidate, including Bill Clinton whom I voted for twice, has ever achieved. Let this man loose on the media and he will have a goodly portion of the country on his side in a heartbeat.
McCain's and Huckabee's strengths overcome the other's weaknesses. They respect and like each other. McCain would never have to worry about Huckabee trying to "stab him in the back." McCain can get more votes per buck with Huck; because Huckabee has an army waiting to be called to active duty. Many of us are already "recruiting" votes for a McCain/Huckabee ticket. I "secured" two today. (both said I'll vote for McCain if he chooses Huckabee as his VP.) Other choices might be able to bring more money; but votes are what will be counted in Nov.
Without Huckabee, McCain is nearly doomed in November. With Huckabee, McCain has a viable shot at winning it. Huckabee will pick up a lot of the disaffected Hillary voters. Huckabee will pick up a lot of conservative Christians. Huckabee will pick up a lot of Reagan Democrats.
A McCain/Huckabee ticket would be a winner, Huckabee is definitely the running mate Senator McCain needs. The American people want change, they want fresh people, and they want somebody that has a true connection to there circumstances. Governor Huckabee fits that billet because god knows he is an outsider and the GOP elite treated him as such, he has never been on the Washington political scene and he knows what it is like to work from paycheck to paycheck without health insurance. Senator McCain will probably never be able to compete with Obama in fundraising, but with Huckabee on the ticket the base will be excited to work there hearts out for a McCain/Huckabee ticket.
I agree with a McCain/Huckabee ticket. Mike's strength in the South cannot be denied and McCain will need those voters to win. He has a winning personality and is one of the best speakers out there today..he can really energize a crowd and finally get some excitement into the Mccain campaign. Many people i've talked to here in Ohio have also said that they will vote for Mccain only if Huckabee is on the ticket. They trust him more than any other candidate. Count me in ..
Mike Huckabee has everything John McCain needs to win the Presidency. He is a great communicator, he has a solid message on issues of national importance, he is relatively young, but has a decade of governing experience, he is beloved by the social conservatives, and he has the values of an American patriot. Choosing him for VP is a no-brainer.
No one but HUCKABEE! No other possible candidate can energize this ticket like Mike. He is the full-meal deal. It is not just one thing you like about him... it is ALL. As my husband says, "McCain who's got your back? Mike that's who!" Mike is trustworthy and not self-serving and self-seeking. He is the man for all the people whites, blacks, young, old, democrats as well as republicans. Huckabee is full of ideas and innovative ways to make America strong and then we can truly say "I am proud to be an American." He is pro-life and pro-family. A far right decision is what McCain must choose. Without Huck, I am afraid he may loose.
I think it makes great sense for Huckabee to be McCain's VP. He has the ability to communicate his ideas so that every one can see where he is coming from. He talks to the ordinary people which make up the majority of the U.S. He has what so many of Americans are lacking now, and that is good old common sense and he uses it too! And so many Democrats like him as well to so he would have a great chance of picking up those Democrats who supported Hillary. He and the Clintons have a very professional relationship with one another even though they have ran against each other many times.
I love Huckabee, but I read a very interesting Article talking about how many of Huckabees supporters are crossing Party lines to vote for Bob Barr because they feel left out by the GOP. If you want to read the article here is the link. I am one of the supporters that is considering casting a vote for Barr. If Huckabee isnt the VP pick I will be voting libertarian. Never thought id say that. Here is the link. The article is at the bottom of the page.
Survey USA is currently taking a series of polls to determine the VP candidate (Out of Governor Huckabee, Senator Lieberman, Governor Pawlenty, and Governor Romney) who will help John McCain the most.
So far they have taken polls in Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Virginia, California, Ohio, Iowa, Kansas, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Oregon, New York, Massachusetts, and Minnesota.
In almost every case, Governor Mike Huckabee has done best. Even in Massachusetts where Romney was once Governor, Huckabee proved to be the most helpful candidate for John McCain in terms of winning votes.
A McCain/Huckabee ticket is the only ticket that has a chance of winning in Nov. People in this country are tired of grid lock and want something done to change this situation, which is why Obama is generating so much excitement by promising change. But the question is, change to what, "something worse" like total liberalism. Gov Mike Huckabee took a state with several serious problems; Arkansas was ranked at or near the bottom in education, health care for kids, roads and jobs. Arkansas is now ranked in the middle of all 50 states and not at the bottom, thanks to Mike Huckabee. The most important reason for having Mike Huckabee as VP is that he has made government work (Check out his record on how successful he dealt with Katrina) , and as a result Mike received 48% of the black vote in a Democrat controlled state. This is the kind of government that people want in this election year.
Yes people want change, but they want to change to a government that works not total liberalism which has proven to never work. Mike Huckabee is the only person with a 10 ½ year record of making government work. Just ask the people of Arkansas where he still has a 65% positive rating.
Mike also is viewed as a person of the people, someone like them. Not like the elitist that either has no concept of rural America’s values toward God, Guns, and Country and calls them bitter or the person the buys the company where your work, cuts cost by eliminating your job and then sells the business for a profit.
Mike also brings an Army of grassroots support already battle tested and ready to go up the hill one more time for HIM!
Mike Huckabee a Proven leader that makes government work, VP 2008
Huckabee makes a lot of sense as a VP choice and not just because he is liked by Christian voters...he is liked by rural working voters. He could really do well in pulling these voters in from Hilary.
Mike Huckabee has the experience, the intelligence, the sensitivity, the values, and the communication ability to win. If the media and the religious establishment had given him an even break, he would have been the nominee, and provide a much stronger challenge to Obama. Even now, his presence or absence will decide the election.
Without Huckabee as McCain's running mate, I don't believe he has a chance of winning the nomination. McCain would gain all of the Conservative votes if he chooses Mike Huckabee. A great majority of the true conseratives are for this ticket. John McCain and Mike Huckabee! I think Mike Huckabee would be a great asset to John McCain.

It is really uncanny how to very different politicians can compliment one another so well.
This combination eclipses what the Dems. thought they had years ago with Clinton/Gore.
