The National Black Republican Association called our attention today to the article in the Wall Street Journal by Shelby Steele addressing "Why Jesse Jackson Hates Obama." The below excerpts will hopefully encourage you to read the whole article:
. . . not looking old so much as a bit lost within the new Obama aura -- it is clear that Jesse Jackson has come to a kind of dénouement. Some force that once buoyed him up now seems spent. Mr. Jackson was always a challenger. He confronted American institutions (especially wealthy corporations) with the shame of America's racist past and demanded redress. He could have taken up the mantle of the early Martin Luther King (he famously smeared himself with the great man's blood after King was shot), and argued for equality out of a faith in the imagination and drive of his own people. Instead -- and tragically -- he and the entire civil rights establishment pursued equality through the manipulation of white guilt. . . .
Mr. Obama's great political ingenuity was very simple: to trade moral leverage for gratitude. Give up moral leverage over whites, refuse to shame them with America's racist past, and the gratitude they show you will constitute a new form of black power. They will love you for the faith you show in them.
So it is not hard to see why Mr. Jackson might have experienced Mr. Obama's emergence as something of a stiletto in the heart. Mr. Obama is a white "race card" -- moral leverage that whites can use against the moral leverage black leaders have wielded against them for decades. He is the nullification of Jesse Jackson -- the anti-Jackson.
And Mr. Obama is so successful at winning gratitude from whites precisely because Mr. Jackson was so successful at inflaming and exploiting white guilt. Mr. Jackson must now see his own oblivion in the very features of Mr. Obama's face. I would think Obama going on a tour of the world, and being greeted by thousands, in countries across the world as the Potential President of the U.S.A should make Jesse and proud, instead of calling for his casturation. It says alot about the how far our people have come with the civil rights movement here in the U.S. Traveling the world Obama gets to visit countries, each unique with their own culture and history, some with violent bloody wars that raged on for centuries, some countries that are all one race, some countries that have many different races and nationalities. Some proud of their flag, some proud of their heritage. To see where we are today, you'd think that race, is not really that big of an issue, but to some, race is an important issue.
Racism is alive and well with the democrats, The problem is the democrats right here in my state want to take racism to a new level. They want to pass hate crimes bills for every minority group, and sexual preference. The worst part is my race, religion, or sexual preference doesn't fall into the category of a protected class. So I'm left out.
Anyone easily offended, by my race or religious beliefs will be able to have me arrested, charged and jailed if I say something they don't agree with. because they are a "protected class" of citizen. And I'm not a protected class of citizen. This is true nonsense and a political move to grab power.
The Republicans in Michigan have a real good opportunity, RIGHT NOW!!! to show a better way, and promote equality. Passing up this opportunity will be the GOP casturating itself, Jesse can sit back with a bag of potato chips and watch as all us folks become 2nd class citizens, and we will all become servants to the protected classes. And Obama will be Elected and fast to redistribute YOUR wealth for you. And with advisers full of Venom like Jesse, armed with hate crimes bills that make themselves more equal and that put the law, favor, and preferential treatment on their side every time. We will all look back with regret, to the day we could have stopped it, with fairness and equality, but instead chose to cower in fear of political correctness.
Right, Eric, it's basically about that potentially fatal epidemic, political correctness, a contagion that began with the Civil Rights movement and has been spread ever since by the liberal “intellectuals.” But there’s more to Jackson’s disgust with Obama. Jesse has finally awakened to the fact that Barack Obama is simply not an American black. Obama is the son of a whacko white teenage slut who lusted after black men, and a Muslim father from a well-to-do Kenyan family, who was an adulterer and international fornicator. Obama was raised by his white grandparents and went to the finest private schools. Unlike American blacks, he had no ancestors who lived in slave cabins and no cousins or neighbors who attended roach-infested, gang-controlled inner city schools. But all the blacks saw was the color of his skin, so they jumped on his bandwagon. When Obama refused to champion the Jena 6, black youths in the south accused of beating a white boy, Jesse Jackson finally realized that Obama is not one of “the black folks.” Welcome to reality, Jesse.
