Ready To Pay $10 Per Gallon for Gas?
At what price do Democrats consider the price per gallon a high enough to warrant action on opening up more domestic areas for energy exploration? Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) wondered at exactly what price would Democrats be willing to let drilling legislation through. Below is a video of the exchange on the floor of the Senate where Sen. Ken Salazar (D-CO) objects to Sen. Mitch McConnell’s proposals to at least set price when the Senate Democrats would finally agree to discuss domestic drilling for oil. With Democrats willing to do nothing at $4 per gallon, McConnell ask for at least a trigger point when gas reaches $4.50, $5.00, $7.50, or even $10 per gallon. Unfortunately for Americans, the answers by Democrats is always no:
With Democrats determined to block new American energy production, Americans are left to spend the rest of their summer paying $4 per gallon or more every time they fill up their tank. And the price is even higher for Truckers using Diesel. The cost of mowing lawns, local delivery services, farmers, and others are impacted. Consumer prices are rising on all goods and services which is punishing all families, especially the poor. The Democrat leadership is pursuing actions (or lack thereof) that will force businesses to cut jobs to adjust to rising prices. The Democrats lack of action are forcing the elderly and poor to make choices that seriously affect there existence.
The Democrat leadership hopes that the public (you) will blame the problems the are creating and facilitating on the Republicans and President George Bush even though they are not responsible this time. They hope that rhetoric verses facts will cover their trail as they seek to take over cover control of all three branches of Government.
Sen. McConnell summed up this sorry situation in a speech on the floor this morning: “Every crisis is a call for leadership, and this one was no different. This was an opportunity for the Democrats who control Congress to demonstrate courage and resolve. They squandered it. In their hunt for more seats in Congress and control of the White House, they took the path of least resistance. They decided that they could increase their hold on Congress by avoiding tough votes [voting for oil drilling], and then blaming the mess that followed on a party that wasn’t even in charge. . . . When Americans demanded action, the Democrats played games.” The result was gridlock, and Americans are left holding the bill.
