Arkansas: Vote No on Amendment 3 - the State Lotteries Amendment
Arkansas - Vote NO on 3, the State Lotteries Amendment
In Arkansas, the State Lotteries Amendment would amend the Arkansas Constitution, which currently prohibits lotteries, to allow and establish state lotteries in Arkansas.
Supporters say that lottery proceeds would be used to create scholarships for students attending two-and four-year colleges. However, lotteries are a notoriously unstable and unreliable revenue source. Additionally, with lotteries every tax-paying Arkansan pays. Why? Because a high percentage of low-income people will gamble on the games, losing a good percentage of their income, increasing costs required to care for their families, and thereby increasing costs to taxpayers.
Since the state would own and operate the lotteries, the government's role would change from being the guardian of its weakest people to an economic predator on them. With government's insatiable appetite for more revenue, lottery gambling creates a serious and irreconcilable conflict of interest.
The gambling business alwa ys preys on those who can lease afford to lose, but the devastating effects on families as well as on poor and elderly citizens will be coupled with losses for Arkansas' overall economy. Lottery purchases will divert money away from legitimate businesses like restaurants, shops and other attractions, hurting small businesses and Arkansas' economy.

Having lived in Florida and Georgia where lotteries were inacted, neither lived up to the promises. Some how they found a way to divert the funds for other uses.
Besides college is not a right nor necessary for all childern. Want a free ride to a higher education, join the military, serve your country to earn it.
The number 1 reason not to install a state lottery is that the POLS will use the monies as they will rather than dedicate it to education (or anything else) since socialist DEMS don't believe the people should be allowed to control their own monies and they must do it for them. MO is a case study. The only reason gambling got into mo was because the states pols promised all the ill gotten gains of lotteries and casinoes would be dedicated to education. However, ALL gambling monies actually go into the regular st funds and the legislature allocates whatever they will to education. It's always a scam. Pols lie because they can and it much easier to cover a lie with another lie.
Thank you to Dr. Briney for posting the very thorough treatise against state lotteries on your ARRA website. No matter what one's position on gambling may be, any thinking person will realize that the STATE has no business setting up a betting racket. It's irresponsible, ineffective, foolish and cruel.
I'm not an Arkansan, nor even a Republican -- actually a left-coast liberal. I tell you honestly: many on the left disapprove of state-run lotteries. Lottery proponents are people of all political stripes whose motivation is greed and self-interest -- as well as some who are themselves too dim to see the folly of gambling.
