Sentenced for Life for Doing Right & Perkins on Point

Tony Perkins, Family Research Council: If Eric Holder needs further explanation for his culture of "cowardice," look no further than Oakland, California. There Rev. Walter Hoye was sentenced yesterday to 30 days in prison for violating the eight-foot "buffer" zone between pro-life protestors and abortion clinics. When he attempted to talk to two women who were entering the Family Planning Specialists Medical Group, Hoye was arrested and later found guilty of violating the law.

In a courtroom full of political activists on both sides, even the county's Deputy Attorney General admitted that Hoye should not be placed in jail. Instead of prison time, Judge Stuart Hing offered the pastor a three-year period of probation from the clinic, but Hoye refused. Like us, he feels the law is unjust. In this environment of political correctness, it has quickly become open season on Christians. While these laws are meant to silence men and women of faith, I challenge the church to step up and defend their right to free speech. That's not cowardice. It's the Constitution.
