Stimulus Money for Beekeeper Insurance
Neil Cavuto interviews a beekeeper about the $150 for honeybee insurance Democrats originally included in their nearly $1 trillion economic stimulus bill. Cavuto wonders how this is supposed supposed to create job.
The beekeeper says he really needs to make his beekeeping farm work on his own "without government handouts." He says he agrees that this provision probably shouldn't be in a stimulus bill. Asked about the stimulus package, the beekeeper says he's not sure if he supports it.

Not all beekeepers have this opinion. My husband and I have lost over half our operation to ccd(something they still have no cure for). We could use the money to keep our business going while trying to raise more bees. I would not be throwing lavish parties or going on awesome vacations like the banks. I would use it to keep food in my kids mouth untill we get our business back in the black. We work hard and more people should be concerned about bees, if all bees died tomorrow 90% of our food would be gone in 2 to 4 years. Maybe they should have interviewed the salmon farmers, I hear they are getting much more money than us beekeepers.
I understand your position. Bee Keeping is very important. The problem is that the issue was not dealt with in an open manner and slipped into a "stimulus" bill.
I would fully support more research and assistance to "real" beekeepers as long as the government would not attach more strings to the people's bee keeping businesses.
I know many, including my self, who would keep bees if the state (in my case, Arkansas) did not have the requirement that in doing so you had to register with the state and the state then had unlimited access to your property. Something I am not willing to do.
Personally, I would raise bees, or allow others to raise bees on my land, for the good of the ecology and then donate the honey to other bee keepers or to the community nonprofit agencies.
The issue with regard to the "Stimulus" bill was the "slipping items" (earmarks) into the bill without open transparency. America cannot afford the continued spiral into debt.
As for the bee keeping industry as it is critical to agriculture and the natural ecology, maybe it is time to expand the dialog!
Maybe it is proper for the government to subsidize and encourage people to establish bee colonies on their land without establishing unreasonable restrictions, access or controls over the land owners. Or at least not hamper the establishment of bee colonies on private land.
Yes, I understand the problem related to the health of the bees but at the rate we are growing a few billion unhealthy (mutating) bees would be better than NO bees. Wildflowers are declining on our land and I am would bet it is related to lack of bees for pollination.
And we haven't even addressed the health aspects for humans being without honey. A product that has a mainstay in our home!
