A man carrying a concealed .357 pistol foiled a robbery in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart at Cantrell and Chenal about 11:30 p.m. Monday night, the LR police said.Editor, ARRA News: Thief Terry was very fortunate that Mr. Antonetz was either a good shot and tried not to kill Terry (a bad choice since Terry had a gun) or was a bad shot. Wonder who now pays for Terry's medical costs? Also, if we had open carry in Arkansas, would these thieves have avoided anyone openly showing the were prepared to defend themselves?
John Antonetz, 63, and his wife Lydia, 57, were loading groceries when a man tried to rob them, the report said. As the robber tried to take her purse, Antonetz ”went around to the passenger side of the vehicle and retrieved his revolver from his concealed holster in his pants. Mr. Antonetz then went to the rear of the vehicle and observed Suspect 1 pointing a revolver at his wife. Mr. Antonetz then shot at Supsect 1 three times and once more when Suspect 1 got into Vehicle 1.” He drove away with two other people.
Suspects were stopped in traffic shortly after, but released because of miscommunication about the description of the getaway car. The video camera tape was used later, however. And police made arrests at UAMS where one of the suspects had gone for treatment of a gunshot wound.
Jonathan Terry, 24, of England; Sherry Battles, 25, of North Little Rock, and Tequila Rice, 22, of Lonoke, were charged with the robbery. Terry was admitted to UAMS for surgery on a gunshot wound to the buttocks, Today’s THV reported. Police said Battles and Rice were non-cooperative and a “minor use of force” was necessary to cuff Rice.
