Hate Crimes (Anti - Christian & Anti - Free Speech) Bill Back In Congress

The Traditional Values Coalition: The re-introduction in Congress of the so-called hate crimes bill a thinly veiled attempt at silencing Christians. TVC warned that it is yet another attack on Christians by this Congress and the next step toward the prosecution of pastors and others by seeking to criminalize speech and thought. On April 2, Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) and Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL) quietly introduced HR 1913, the Local Law Enforcement Crimes Prevention Act (LLECPA). TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty issued the following statement on the LLECPA:

The so-called hate crimes bill is on the fast track. A vote is expected in the House Judiciary Committee in a matter of weeks. We have been told it will be the week of April 20th! Your pastor could be prosecuted for “conspiracy to commit a hate crime” if it passes.

The so-called hate crimes bill will be used to lay the legal foundation and framework to investigate, prosecute and persecute pastors, business owners, Bible teachers, Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, Christian counselors, religious broadcasters and anyone else whose actions are based upon and reflect the truths found in the Bible.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) has pointed out that this legislation, H.R. 1913 Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009, will be used to intimidate and prosecute pastors who may preach Biblical sermons concerning the homosexual agenda and lifestyle. The legislation broadly defines “intimidation. A pastor’s sermon could be considered “hate speech” under this legislation if heard by an individual who then acts aggressively against persons based on any “sexual orientation.” The pastor could be prosecuted for “conspiracy to commit a hate crime.” Rep. Gohmert explained this danger for the previously defeated bill H.R. 1592 in the following video.

This legislation is based on exaggerated and unsubstantiated claims of an epidemic of hate against homosexuals, bisexuals, and transgenders. The latest FBI statistics from 2007 show that out of 1,521 victims of sexual orientation bias crimes, only 242 resulted in actual bodily harm. The rest were incidents of intimidation -- name-calling or shoving. This is hardly an epidemic of hate against homosexuals.

This hate crime bill defines “sexual orientation” as actual or perceived. This means that all 30 sexual orientations defined by the American Psychiatric Association’s DSM-IV could be considered protected minorities under federal law. Do we really want voyeurists, incestuous fathers, pedophiles or diaper fetishists claiming federal minority status under this law?

The real goal of this legislation is to target speech and expression not to help local law enforcement officials deal with crime. The second goal is to criminalize any criticism of bizarre sexual behaviors as “hate speech” or a “hate crime” to be prosecuted by federal officials.

Urge Members of Congress to soundly reject this attack upon free speech and freedom of religion. Contact your representatives! Contact your senators!

For those who understand, no explanation is needed.
For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible

It looks like our friends at the ADL & SPLC might have a hand in this like they did in the Missouri MIAC Document as you pointed out in the post 26 Mar 09.
Could this be more of the same kind of over the top political propaganda distributed by these groups?

I do not see anything in this bill about silencing Christians, if that is what they truly are? I do not believe that any pastors, business owners, Bible teachers, Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, Christian counselors, religious broadcasters nor anyone else would be investigated or prosecuted unless they were instigating harm against another American. What claim would any pastor, who preaches good will toward men and doing unto others as you would do toward yourself, have against any such protection for Americans who are continually victimized for not fitting neatly into someone else's hate filled view of “how it should be”, This country is based on the principle of freedom and the Preamble of the Constitution spells this out rather clearly, We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. I would like attention to the underlined, does that sound anything like saying, it's OK to cause any citizen of this nation to fear any group regardless of their religious beliefs? No! Claiming a religious right to do so is already prohibited in our Constitution. This was done to so as to protect anyone from following the religion of their choice, without persecution from groups of differing beliefs. I believe that all people in our country are free to express themselves in any way they wish, as long as they do no harm to others. The Traditional Values Coalition are only a part of our society, yet they like so many other groups feel they have the right to tell everyone how they should live and believe! I have a big problem with that, since it is so familiar a path that a another group followed, they used the same arguments, walked down same road in Nazi Germany. We are Americans not Nazi's, so why in the world be afraid of someones lifestyle unless those claiming to be so worried are so insecure in their own. Are the claims made by TVC rational, not really. Do they sound like they have little confidence in their own Faith, yes they do! Will increasing protection for people who have become victims of unfounded hatred unravel their religious world, I seriously doubt it. What is the actual danger here?

Now here I was thinking it would protect gays and lesbians from those who get the idea its okay to hate gays and lesbians from the likes of Jerry Cox.
I have no problem with Christians who think homosexuality is wrong. I think Christianity is stupid. The difference between me and a Christian who thinks being gay is wrong is that I don't try to legislate other peoples lives based on what I think is right.
I won't beat up on you because you're Christian but I'm afraid a Christian would beat me because I'm a lesbian.

That's ridiculous. Bull Dykes and sneering lipstik lesbians aree more likely to lash out with violence than some mild mannered Christian. The hostility in recent times has been from the Homosexuals. Everyone sees it-even people who have been largely tolerant and accepting of homosexuals are now realizing why it was classified as a mental illness for so long.

TVC Update On Hate Crime Action Today.

April 22, 2009 – We just spent 5 hours sitting in the House Judiciary Committee hearing room monitoring the debate over passage of the so-called hate crime bill, H.R. 1913, the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act. This legislation is designed to add “sexual orientation,” “gender” and “gender identity” as specially protected categories of persons under federal law.

The debate is not over. The markup and vote is to be continued tomorrow morning. But, there were some very telling developments from today’s hearing:

The Democrats admitted defeat on the phony “findings” to justify passage of H.R. 1913. TVC hammered them on these phony findings that claimed homosexuals and drag queens were fleeing across state lines to avoid personal attacks. The Democrats voted to remove the “findings.” This is a major victory for our side – and for our activists who wrote thousands of letters to expose this fraud.

The Democrats had claimed that the interstate commerce clause applied to protecting gays and drag queens, but without the “findings” this excuse has been taken from them!

Lesbian Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) was visibly shaken and upset by a series of questions about sexual orientation and gender identity. She refused to define what gender or “gender identity” might mean in the law. She was repeatedly asked to define these terms and she danced around giving a real answer.

Democrats refused to add members of the military, seniors, unborn babies, pregnant women, and Americans targeted by illegals as protected classes under this hate crimes bill! Clearly, gays and drag queens are of more value than these persons.

Democrats admitted that “animus” – or what a person thinks – is the basis for enhanced penalties against homosexuals, bisexuals, and transsexuals. They have admitted that this is a thought crime bill! People will be punished for what they think – just for their violent actions!Rep. Gerald Nadler (D-NY) admitted that this bill is designed to raise the penalties for crimes against these specially protected groups! This is unequal protection under the law. Nadler’s specially-protected groups are more valuable than soldiers, the elderly, pregnant women, or unborn babies.
