Stop the Anchor Babies – HR 1868
The United States currently grants automatic U.S. citizenship to almost all children born in the United States, regardless of whether the parents are U.S. citizens. This policy encourages women to come to the United States illegally to give birth so their children can have citizenship. Their babies are called “anchor babies” because, at age 21, as U.S. citizens, they become eligible to sponsor as legal immigrants most of their relatives, including their illegal-alien mothers, thus becoming the U.S. "anchor" for an extended immigrant family. According to the 2005 edition of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, doctors reported that between 300,000 and 350,000 anchor babies annually become citizens!
The Birthright Citizenship Act - HR 1868 (Nathan Deal, R-GA) would eliminate this automatic citizenship for children born in the United States to illegal aliens. HR 1868 would establish that the "subject to the jurisdiction" clause of the 14th Amendment awards birthright citizenship only if one of the parents is: (1) a U.S. citizen or national; (2) a lawful permanent resident alien in the United States; or (3) an alien on active service in the U.S. Armed Forces.
So far there are 47 sponsors (46 Republicans and 1 Democrat). It is interesting that 8 Texas Congressmen (R) have signed on as sponsors but Ron Paul is not yet one of the co-sponsors. In the neighboring State of Arkansas, Rep. John Boozman (R) is a co-sponsored of the bill. You can keep track of the bill, its sponsors, and your US Representative at Open Congress.
Contact your U.S. Congressman and ask them to support HR 1868.

It says something about this country that people do this -- have "anchor babies". That Mexicans and Cubans risk their lives to get here.
As opposed to other countries the Lefties admire, where people risk their lives to get OUT.
I have stood in opposition to *anchor babies* for many years, I believe that the automatic granting of US citizenship simply because you happened to be born on US soil is, quite simply, wrong.
Almost 24 years ago I was in the hospital waiting room in a hospital in El Paso, Texas. My son was about to come into the world and just wasn't cooperating...
Anyway, as I waited I saw an ambulance pull in and 2 or 3 Border Patrol units. They had a young Mexican girl that had waded across the river, wetback is simply a misnomer in most instances, and she had reached the US side. She was in labor and had passed out on the US side of the border only to be found by the BP.
They brought her to the hospital and that was the 1st time I had any direct experience with the *anchor baby* thing...
That young girl, and she was YOUNG, had risked her life and the life of her baby in the hopes that the child would be born HERE and not there...
It really does say a lot about the USA but I still don't like the *anchor baby* idea, not one little bit...
I think we best clean up the "natural born citizen" problem at the same time. If another parent is a citizen of a country which grants dual citizenship - then you have a problem of divided loyalty.
