SB-2099 is a Hoax & Does Not Exist!
Again, many of you may have received an e-mail warning about "SB-2099," a bill that would supposedly require you to report all your guns on your income tax return every April 15. Although April 15th is past, the email continues on almost with a life of its own. Please delete it!
"SB-2099" IS A HOAX AND DOES NOT EXIST!
Like many rumors, there's just a grain of truth - but that grain is rests in history. This hoax email recycles an aspect of an old 2000 email alert which wasn't accurate when it was new. In 2000, there was a U.S. Senate bill with that number that would have taxed handguns. It was introduced by anti-gun Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI), and it would have included handguns under the National Firearms Act’s tax and registration scheme. This had nothing to do with anyone’s Form 1040. Fortunately, S. 2099 died without any action by the Senate.
While we need to be vigilant regarding all threats against the 2nd Amendment and other Constitution rights, we also need to be vigilant about the false rumors which dilute the focus on the real threats and may actually have been started to embarrass right minded people. Yes, there are many threats and we and others will attempt to alert you about these threats to your freedoms. But check out everything.
