New Low Obama Approval Rating
New low for Obama approval--9/1/09
Late last month, John Allison indicated President Obama might help himself by backing off the health care debate. That was back when he was at the forefront, staging town hall meetings with planted questions from children of supporters. It was a little over a month after his ABC infomercial from the White House. It was around the time Democratic leaders in Congress were calling those of us who opposed the bill un-American and just before the White House asked supporters to turn in Obamacare opponents.
Obama's poll numbers showed a slight uptick when his administration floated a trial balloon for health care reform without a public option, but a threatened mutiny from his far left base quickly shot that down. He then went back to a full court press, insisting there would be a public option and introducing the idea of using the "nuclear option" (a procedural technique for getting around the need for 60 votes in the US Senate) for the first time. Basically he went from trying to sell his plan to telling Americans if they didn't buy it, he'd cram it down their throats.
No, the President didn't drop back and punt. In fact, he didn't drop back at all until last week when he took his family on a millionaire's retreat on posh Martha's Vineyard. With Obama in search of a "news free week," health care almost dropped from the headlines. But it may have been too late.
Today's, Rasmussen's Daily Presidential Tracking Poll showed Obama with his lowest overall approval rating among likely voters since taking office. With only 45% supporting the President and 53% disapproving of the job he's done thus far, one might infer the quiet period came too late. Americans have now recognized this man will lie without conscience to get what he wants.
A majority of likely voters have finally realized Obama's change wasn't what they had in mind last November. I wish our country had not been so blind before the election. Maybe some good will come out of this, though. Maybe our country will get back on the right track and quit electing charisma over substance.
Still find it amazing that people were not aware of the direction he would take my beloved country. So now we have to suffer until 20 Jan 2013 because this country got a case of the 'stupids'. You were warned and you did not listen so now we ALL pay. Thanks! Please use this as an experience lesson and DO NOT do it again, America.
Thinking it may take the GOP 12-18 years to clean up this clown's mess.
Thought it would inherently be a bumpy ride, one fell swoop of a Kenyan Birth Cert would nullify much of the 'long-legged-mac-daddys" rebellion (aka: policy making/appointments). Shoot, gitmo NEEDS to be empty to house the whitehouse squatters.
Rob makes a good point. Reminded me of Katrina. This great story of an Asian community who rolled up their sleeves and just took care of business, with or without the gubmint. Weren't remotely helpless without the gubmint. Could think AND do for themselves. THAT is America. Hence, it's obvious the current "gubming" hates America and her independence and her people being able to do for themselves. Geesh...co-dependent pimp-thief-oppressor, condescending, deceptive Obamafia.
Almost irreparably damage to this economy and the country's free enterprise system. Turning back socialism, rebuilding our homeland security, renewing confidence in our nation, and reversing inane incoherent national security strategy will take time. I think 12-18 years is conservative.
The Dummy's plummeting popularity stats are the highlight of my day. Thank you SO much for posting them, Rachel. Brings a smile to my face and a nice warm feeling inside —like there IS a Santa Claus.
I think Rob's right, too. My bet is that within a year after pulling the plug on the Fed, having the Treasury put us back on a gold-backed dollar, and eliminating the IRS, we would be outstripping our most robust GDP.
Minority opinion - oh wait the majority of the people vote for Obama, unlike bush in '00, how long will it take to the US to right itself...years of fighting a war he lied to get us into, illegal torture that still drags down the US image, and an oh-so free market economy that 8 years of looking the other way allowed every "free-market" bank to get in so far over it's head, in the name of greed, that billions had to be spent to make sure they didn't fail. well hell, nothing like bailing out major corporations (started under bush by the way), but screw the little guy, why should a working mother of 3 who can afford private insurance have a cheaper public option? INSANE i say!!! I will not defend every Obama decision, in fact I have been down right critical of a lot of the decision made even after voting for him. but this economy tanked before him, there has been no change in threat levels to national security, and seriously...the birth cert. thing died in the courts a long time ago...
it seems like to me that GOP has just turned into the grand over-reacting party, and everyone got so used to blindly following the Bush-Cheney policy because of their no stop scare tactics to promote quiet obedience, that instead of rationally thinking about or even discussing policy, the new norm is to just stand up scream FIRE, DANGER, TERRORIST at the top of your lungs at any hint of debate and hope it scares the other side down. As evident by town hall meetings that have erupted into Hitler comparisons instead of articulate, educated, intelligent debates.
Ummm Justin, a majority of the answers for your questions or counter to your statements is "The Constitution" The past is the past, let's deal with the present and look to the future. Tit for tat comparisons of previous administrations to this one is useless.
No where in this string was the birth certificate thing even mentioned until you brought it up. Pointless comment.
The economy was in a downward spiral that was initiated by Freddie and Fannie under Clinton, Cisneros, Frank and the lot in the sub prime mortgage issue. None the less, the amount of money spent thus far, if had been directly invested in the DJIA stocks, or in the stock market in general would have yielded a greater return of economic growth than what we have now. Immediate cessation of non essential spending and dramatic income tax cuts would have put more of a jolt into the economy than these debt/deficit ridden bill that puts or posterity on the line.
I was at a town hall and attempted to quote the founders and was yelled over by proponents of the bill. When I finally was able to ask the constitutional authority, the Congressman referred to the Constitution as "a guideline" and "principles that guide us" Don't believe me, I have video and audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8j6UgvQ8js The "guideline" comment is at 3:30 seconds however the entire video is exemplary of the disdain my representative have for his own rules, the founders and the Constitution. BTW, he never answered where the authority could be found, as there is NONE.

Dale, what would take the GOP 12-18 years to clean up "We the people" can accomplish in less than 2.

How about six months

Let's just hope our Congress holds firm on any crazy stuff floating around. Maybe this August recess was a wake up call for them.
