It doesn't make sense. 15 million Americans can't find a job and our government is still allowing 1.5 million foreign workers a year to enter this country and take American jobs. And that's not counting the illegal workers taking jobs. With Americans losing their houses and struggling to put food on the table, how can we continue giving jobs away? Does anyone really believe there's a labor shortage? And yes, Americans will do "those jobs." [

Its a shame and a disgrace that this program would continue. But those who favor it will always contend that these are jobs Americans won't take! More BS!
It seems its real difficult even for teens these days just to get part-time work because of this as well. Can't get a job flipin burgers because they don't have to hire teens when can they hire illegals..I'm sure a few are, not saying they all are. But that is a displacement that hurts our society too.
Because our government unionized schools have dumbed down our kids and made them lifetime students, verses critical thinking, hard working, employees.... VERY SAD!!! Not to mention all the handcuffs the governments have put on businesses at all levels...county city state & fed!
Taxation, Regulation and Litigation. The liberals plan for killing business in the US.
Yes, Americans can and will do "those jobs." Unfortunately, employers have incentives in the form of tax breaks and tax loopholes for hiring workers with green cards (not to mention economic incentives for illegally hiring those without green cards), so this situation is not likely to change soon. And no, it doesn't make any sense.
Another Ocomie inaction.
Amen, Jamie and John. And it's all in the name of MORE and MORE gov't control. O is writing the book on how to take the country down---from a Republic to Communism in less than his 4 year term. Wake up America---we have our chance to recapture some of our basic freedoms in 2010. Stay the course!
Stop looking for someone else to create your job. Think out of the box, do some research and start your own business making something!
I am Canadian and I want to move in the US later... I know that Americans are missing jobs, but the Canadians and Europeans who are moving in the US are holding a bachelor degree of higher. There are currently 1 million Canadians living in the US (and we are 33 millions in Canada). These are highly qualified workers that the americans need, because (I have heard, but it needs to be verified) that Americans do not produce enough holders of bachelor's degree, Masters and PhDs for their economy. The strength of the American economy is that you get all the very best from the rest of the world and your freedom.
If you want to stop this, tell Canada and European Union to lower government intervention, put some private in the health care, lower taxes, etc.
I want to move in the US because I know that in Quebec I have no future. They do not want to cut in government, but all they do is higher fees and taxes. People of my generation will have no retirement because the RRQ is a Ponzi Pyramid and for the Retirement-Saving-Account, people do not have the money because taxes are too high and they think that government money is all fine. Here, nothing is moving until government says so. Really.
Sorry, I really needed to say this.
We are importing poor people into the country so that the Democrats will have more voters. They don't care if they are terrorists, have aides, have TB, have no job skills, or anything else. The stupidity of Democrats is obvious.
Now the same people who were in charge of the lists of party guests at the White House will be in charge of the terrorists watch list and no fly list. I do not feel confident.
Yeah that is the answer start your own business so the Government Criminals can take more of what you produce through Illegal taxation.
I am all for LEGAL immigrants that are willing to pay into our taxing system, especially educated people that are willing to contribute to society. I am 110% against lazy, illegal immigrant couch potatoes that want a government handout, that think that we owe them something. And in South Texas we are getting MORE than our share of the type Ross is talking about from south of the border. This needs to be stopped. We can not even afford to take care of ourselves, much less illegal aliens that want to sneak across our borders and take advantage of our hard earned cash.
@ Mike: I'd rather have them come here and pay into the local community rather than sending the jobs elsewhere which takes from us the fruits of localized commercial taxation of labor, cost of living, housing, and entertainment.
Two big questions come to mind however: "What skills do these out-sourced employees possess that we ourselves do not?"and "What makes their employment more desirable than ours?"
I believe the answer lies hidden somewhere between the Italian Lira and American's sense of mercantilism.
@ Jaime: Historically, our primary inner-urban schooling systems have been taught by teachers with no more education than a 4-year degree (if that) which may indicate why our primary school systems are a joke. That aside, I believe it's the responsibility of the parents to teach our youth the meaning of hard-work, not the school systems.
@ Darrel: Yeah, like underwater basket-weaving; I hear it's an untapped industry.
@ Vicky: Agreed, immigrants that possess the ability and willingness to apply a trade and/or educational field of study to our community will ultimately increase the value of the community which then empowers the republic.
The foreign workers are usually here under contract. Few benefits and they can be terminated at any time for any reason. And when they lose their position, they have to leave the country.
Essentially, they're chattel slaves.
