StimuLIES
Tony Perkins, AFP Washington Update: One year ago this week, President Obama signed the so-called "Stimulus" bill. Instead of forgetting the anniversary of the failed legislation, the Democrats plan on holding a big party on Wednesday to celebrate this $787 billion monstrosity. Since it became law, the Obama Stimulus plan has been knee-deep in deception with figures made out of thin air, which was appropriate since it was matched with Congressional districts that didn't even exist!
As for the jobs actually created, they were so outrageous you would think someone made them up. A $200,000 stimulus grant going to the University of California at San Diego to study why Africans vote, actually did create twelve jobs, but only five of those jobs went to U.S. citizens, the other seven went to Africans in Africa. However, all the money isn't going overseas. The $389,000 grant going to the State University of New York at Buffalo is being used to pay one hundred Buffalonians $45 each to record how much malt liquor they drink and how much pot they smoke.
Instead of rejoicing, maybe it's time politicians in Washington became serious about controlling the undisciplined spending of taxpayer dollars. FRC Action Senior Vice President Tom McClusky has a piece in today's Washington Times detailing how one Senator, Dr. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), is trying to get his fellow legislators to wise up -- or the next job that could be lost is their own.
