We Need a Lemon Law for Politicians

Bill Smith, Editor: In my opinion, any politician who takes any action that restricts economic growth, that will lead to fewer jobs, or promotes less freedom detailed under the Bill of Rights needs to be voted out of office regardless of party affiliation barring their opponent being an even bigger "lemon."

We need is a "lemon law" on politicians. Or, rightfully said a Constitutional Amendment. I know this is a nonsensical idea, but stay with me for a couple of paragraphs. America's frustration with disingenuous prevaricating politicians continues to expand exponentially based on their degree of incompetence and arrogant attempts to deceive.

So, let's consider a potential "lemon law" for politicians created by the people verses being created by self-aggrandized protectionist incumbent politicians. Under such a law, we would hold people running for office to what they say they believe and support. We should demand complete openness and transparency by our politicians. If a candidate says they support particular positions, beliefs, or agendas but after being elected they don't follow what they said, they should be subject to a recall vote under the "lemon law."

Under the "lemon law, liberals progressive elitists (normally running as Democrats, socialists, communists, progressives, Greens) will be expected to say what they believe and will support or will not support. If they win the elections, they will be not be allowed to violate their wacko ideas or agendas. They would be required to support higher taxes, reduced freedoms, expansion of centralized government, etc. And, they same goes for conservatives (normally running as Republicans, libertarians, constitutionalists).  Each candidate would have to define specifically  which areas of conservatism they truly believe in and what areas they do not support and then they will be held accountable for violating their previously stated positions.

And finally, the same would be said for any other declared party candidates except for  independents. However, based on past examples, independent politicians are proverbial bait and switch artists. They seem to have commitment issues, avoid transparency, and ignore accountable to constituents. In truth, they don't work well with others. Independents politicians at the extremes may do well as entrepreneurs or preachers but at the other end of the spectrum they also excel as grumblers and bar bums. Independents want control or to be able to criticize without being answerable to others including voters. Voting independents into office gets you lemons.

As a conservative, I prefer open honest conservatives in office but even I could abide a truly honest liberal (won't agree with them) who always votes their declared positions and doesn't lye about their votes or the  the outcomes of their positions.  Oh yes, I agree that the odds for such a "lemon law" are zip, Nada, zero.

However, America is tired of the prevaricating elitist attitude that has infected a significant number in Washington, D.C. Americans have soured on the significant number of lemons elected, appointed, and employed in Congress, the White House, and federal agencies. Were tired of the lemons in our state governments.  While we don't have a "lemon law" for politicians, we do have elections in 2010 and 2012. Fellow American voters, it up to us to get out and work to vote out the lemons and to demand that those we elect remain transparent and work to reduce the size of Federal and state lemon barrels.
