Arkansas Sen. Mark Pryor Votes No To Repeal ObamaCare

Sen. Mark Pryor
Votes to the Left of Liberal
Bill Smith, Editor: Arkansas Senator Mark Pryor joined other liberal democrats in voting against repealing the federal health care law (Obamacare) which has been declared unconstitutional and void. The vote was on amendment offered to the FAA Re-authorization bill by Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) which was identical to the text of the House-passed bill (H.R. 2) to repeal the Democrats’ health care law. At last count the vote was 47 Yes and 51 No on the amendment.

Four hours prior to the vote, Senator Pryor responded as follows via email to my request for him to vote to repeal the bill. Note that his email response even promoted a non-government website:
February 2, 2011
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Smith,

Thank you for contacting me regarding health care reform. I appreciate hearing from you.

On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) into law. Since being signed into law, PPACA has helped over 43,000 Arkansas seniors who fall in the "donut hole" afford their medicines and provided tax credits to small businesses in Arkansas that offer health coverage to employees. It has also prohibited insurance companies from placing lifetime limits on coverage, ensuring that 1.4 million Arkansans who have private insurance are not abandoned when they need health coverage the most.

While the passage of health care reform was a step in the right direction for making health care more affordable and expanding access to health care in rural America, there is still work to be done. I will continue to consider changes and improvements to PPACA as implementation moves forward. Please know that I will continue to work to ensure that health coverage is available to and affordable for all Americans.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I value your input. Please do not hesitate to contact me or my office regarding this or any other matter of concern to you.

Sincerely,
Mark Pryor

After the final vote, Senate Republican Leader, Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made the following statement on the Health Spending Bill and the Senate GOP effort to repeal it: “The Senate Republicans promised the American people we would vote to repeal Obamacare, and we have done that. But this fight isn’t over. We intend to continue the fight to repeal and replace Obamacare with sensible reforms that would lower the cost of American health care, like medical malpractice, like selling insurance across state lines. This fight isn’t over, so I hope you’ll stay in the fight with us.”

Is anyone suprised? Pryor needs to meet the same fate as Blanchie Lincoln -- NOT getting reelected.

Look's like we have to find someone who still supports the Constitution to replace Sen. Pryor when he is up for re-election. Replacing all the ones who dismiss the Constitution is the only way we can save America.

“I am happy to have the opportunity to represent the interests of Arkansans who for nearly a year have been calling for a repeal of the health care law. Americans deserve lawmakers who are committed to working to represent their interests and its clear what Senators have heard the will of the people.

“Our job creators are relying on lawmakers to repeal not only the flawed health care law but its burdensome 1099 reporting requirements as well, which bury small businesses in a mountain of unnecessary IRS paperwork. I’m supportive of repealing and replacing the entire law and I also support getting rid of this costly provision so we have a business environment that encourages job growth and creation, instead of stifling it.

“I will continue to fight for a full repeal of the law as we seek meaningful health care reform that provides quality, affordable access for all citizens, not overly burdensome regulations on families and small businesses."
-----
Boozman is an original cosponsor of S.192, legislation authored by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) that fully repeals the health care reforms President Obama signed into law March 23, 2010. He is also an original cosponsor of the ‘Small Business Paperwork Reduction Act,’ legislation authored by Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE) that repeals the 1099 requirement.

"I’m pleased Senate Republicans have kept their promise to seek repeal of President Obama’s job-destroying health care law. Each day this unconstitutional health care law is allowed to remain in effect – with its burdensome mandates and tax hikes – it costs our country jobs. People who create jobs – and those who need them – agree. A group of 200 economists and experts have backed repeal on account of the law’s ‘major barriers’ to job creation. If it’s a jobs bill Senate Democratic leaders are looking to support, they should join this effort to repeal the job-destroying health care law. It’s the right thing to do, and the right time to do it.

“The need for repeal continues to become more clear, whether it’s in the courts or the court of public opinion. We will keep our word to the American people and continue working to repeal this job-destroying health care law and replace it with common-sense reforms that lower costs and increase access without putting more Americans out of work. Our committees are hard at work. This debate has just begun.”

A recent Rasmussen survey found that “58 percent of likely voters at least somewhat favor repeal of the health care law,” and a plurality believes “repeal of the health care law will be good for the economy.” A survey by Resurgent Republic found that a “plurality of registered voters (49 to 44 percent) support Republican plans to repeal and replace the health care reform bill, including a majority of Independents (54 to 36 percent support).”

Can we impeach US Senators? If I had to guess if we had stayed with the founders intent and had senators appointed by our state rather than elections we could. Maybe we need to reconsider and really drive progressives over the edge. Bill Maher move to Israel we dont want you.

2/03/2011

Unfortunately, we Arkansans cannot impeach him. If we went back to appointments by the State Senate, the dems would be in office for life. Remember, We the People voted Blanche Lincoln out of office. The AR Senate would have kept her in office. Bill Maher wouldn't make it in Israel. Maybe he needs to go to "global warming" Antarctica.

Thanks for all the comments!!!

Unfortunately, barring fate, Sen. Pryor will not be up for re-election until 2014. We will have to focus on others in 2012. Pryor hopes to convince you to forget this vote via his supporting changes to Obamacare, other votes on issues, and the four year time span before the next election. He did it before and drew no opponent.

We need to help Pryor remember - maybe send him something like a black valentine card on Feb 2nd every year with the words - we remember your vote.

If we work hard in 2012 to gain control of the Arkansas legislature and to retain our 3 Conservative reps (if they stay in line) and to Boot Mike Ross, then we will have the momentum to get and support someone to stand against Pryor in 2014.

Republican Party of Arkansas (RPA) Chairman Doyle Webb issued the following statement after U.S. Senate Democrats, including Senator Mark Pryor (D-AR), voted 51-47 to block the repeal of Obamacare Wednesday:

“Yesterday Senator Mark Pryor voted to defend a law that destroys freedom of choice, raises the cost of health care, and has been declared unconstitutional by two federal judges. Senator Pryor cast a vote to oppress individual liberty, despite the fact Arkansas’ four Congressmen recently voted in a bi-partisan manner to repeal the harmful law.

“We applaud Senator John Boozman for defending individual freedom, listening to Arkansans and voting to repeal Obamacare.

“Senator Pryor’s blatant disregard for the overwhelming majority of Arkansans who object to all or some of the President’s health care law demonstrates he is largely out of step with Arkansas values.”

CAN ANYBODY EXPLAIN THAT TO ME? they are not governing anymore their dictating to us!

I am still a Bernie Skoch fan but I think he might run again for the house in 2012. Maybe we will get some heroes in the state legislature the next two years that will indicate some new blood for DC. Randy Alexander also might still be willing and would be a good man. We had several good candidates in the primary last spring but none with the name recognition of Boozman.

During the heated Obamacare debate, Senator Pryor was missing in action. He did not hold a single Townhall Meeting, but rather called a few of his friends and held a telephone conference to get off the hook. He votes with the Democrats and not the People he is suppose to represent. Check out Pryor on the Issues they have scrubbed all his votes on the Affordable Healthcare Bill.
